[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I don't know if I would take this on trail as an avid UL backpacker, especially since a lot of the places I go have no trees, but it is absolutely awesome for camp. The bug net is perfect for stargazing in the desert. Lines are super intuitive for tightening.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Packs down super small and light and I sleep better in this than in my bed at home. Comfortable. Airy. Warm and dry. Tenting sites are few in our area because it's all rocks, trees, and hills. Hammock sites? Lots! :) I love my Mantis UL!

I have had this hammock for 6 years now and it has been my greatest purchase ever. I take it on a two week long trip to the boundary waters every year plus many other weekend camping trips. It is incredibly light and packs up very small. I have had no issues with anything breaking or tearing and I have been fairly hard on it. If this thing ever breaks I will definitely be getting another one.

    Best hammock out there

Been using the Mantis UL for a couple years. I have about 20 nights spent in this hammock and it is by far the most well thought out camping hammock I have used. It’s always funny when camping with friends that have other brand hammocks. It take them three times longer to set theirs up. They are always amazed as to how fast I can set the Mantis up. The hammock has held up very well to years of abuse. Looking forward to having this hammock for awhile.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a replacement for one purchased when they first came out. Spent several nights in it and it quickly became my #1 tent when there were trees (have 2 others). Found some issues with netting seams on my last trip and Kammok took care of it (returned email/initiated delivery) next business day - best customer service I've had in YEARS.

I love absolutely everything about this product, except for one. I wish they could have used the ultralight suspension system on this like what they have for their UL hammock. Besides that, this thing keeps you comfortable and high and dry! There’s not much more you can ask for.

I tried the Sunday first and then I got the mantis. The mantis was far more comfortable for me. The Hamic seems a lot bigger which is good because 6‘2“. Plus I use the tarp by itself sometimes just for a sunshade. I would highly recommend this to anyone!

The “fish net” affair I tried on the rocky ridges along Pennsylvania’s Midstate Trail was less than a complete success. My army surplus poncho was not quite large enough to serve as a tarp and the hammock constantly tried to roll over and dump me face first into the rocks. Even on the ridges, bug netting would have been a wonderful addition. My experiment did not extend into colder seasons or I would have discovered the necessity for an under quilt before one was invented. Fast forward 45 years. I keep reading that hammocks are a “thing”! I had a hard time imagining how they had become popular, given my experience. I started reading and watching videos. I discovered Kammok. New materials and product designs have turned my dream into reality. There are other companies out there with competing products, but, I chose the Mantis UL for my AT section hike in October. Kammok has put together a leading edge lightweight system that works. I sleep better in my Mantis UL than I have ever slept on the ground. I knew to add a Firebelly, thanks to Kammok’s extensive product information. I tried it out on my own property for a couple nights, in good weather and bad. Then I slept in it on the AT. As long as I have trees to tie to, I may never sleep on the ground again. Four stars, not five? Five stars would be perfect. What in this world is perfect? Here is my constructive criticism. I clipped my hammock to one strap and begin to pull it from the stuff sack. Immediately the stakes sense that escape was possible and dove for the duff. You must remove them from their cute little pockets for safe keeping, long before you need them or they will return to the wild. The cord tensioners are a great idea for folks who have not learned to tie a fee basic knots. In reality, I found it necessary to put a half hitch below each device because they do not hold when the wind shakes your shelter. That’s it. I’d buy it again and I would recommend it to s friend who seeks a good night’s sleep and a lighter pack on the trail !

One Hammock to rule them all....

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Occasionally I read reviews that are so overwhelmingly positive that I immediately doubt the validity of them.....this is one of those. I recently got back from the film project deep in the Ecuadorian Amazon I bought this hammock for. Putting up was easy. Carrying it around nestled amongst mountains of camera gear barely even added to the load. Sleeping in it was, well, something I don't really remember, which is a good thing, right? Getting bitten through the material (something thats happened in other hammocks) by swarms of hand sized mosquitos did not happen. I even accidentally tested this hammock to what in my eyes should have been the point of failure. Sleeping near a river, the heavens opened and for 2 hours it rained the kind of Amazonian rain that has reptiles running for high ground. I was not woken by water cascading or even seeping into my hammock. I was woken by an indigenous man I was working with politely waking me up and suggesting that I might want to move to higher ground. The river had burst its banks, risen by about 3 meters and the land beneath my hammock was now awash with muddy turbulent water. The tarp had prevented perhaps the most rain I've ever seen from touching me. That storm carried away and destroyed our canoe and outboard motor. It partially broke my good mood, and fogged up my lenses. It did not break or even breach the hammock. Amazing. And, as I packed up in a hurry already impressed by the thing, I suddenly noticed an extra sleeve within the inbuilt stuff sack that separated my drenched tarp from the hammock itself. Bravo Kammok, you'v thought of everything.

    Sweet lightweight sleep

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] After sleeping for years in a bottom-entry hammock, I decided to try this one. After just a couple backpacking trips into the wild with it, I'm enjoying the side entry and the ability to dis/connect the bug netting. I like that the fly is separate--that it doesn't link onto the same rope the hammock hangs from. This gives more versatility and better rain protection. Though I'm a knot-tying nerd, I do enjoy the straps and carabiners that the Kammok comes with. Less so, the other knot-free innovations. The plastic piece attached to the fly that tightens the main ridge of the fly didn't hold reliably as the wind was blowing it about during setup. Fortunately, the way it's made allows me to use my old knot system with the fly and side guy-lines. The whole system is as lightweight as what I had before. Extra points for the stake stowage integrated into the stuff sack! The little velcro closure that's intended to hold the fly-side of the stuff sack closed doesn't have much power to it, so a few times when I didn't need the fly, it's fallen out of the stuff sack (when the hammock was hung) rather than staying snugly stashed. I do like that the lines for the fly can tuck (more or less) into little pockets near where they're fastened to the fly. I was surprised to see frayed material inside the hammock at the seams-- loose threads coming out every which way, which doesn't inspire confidence in it's strength/durability. I haven't had it unravel on me in the wild yet, though, so perhaps it was just a bad hemming day? All in all, a sweet setup, with multiple options ranging from lakeside swing to afternoon nap spot to through-the-night-in-the rain... I'm still getting used to the ways this one differs from what I had in the past, but I'd recommend it to others for consideration.

I love backpacking and sleeping in a hammock, I've tried a good number of different options... This is hands down the BEST of the BEST!! And lightest set up! Honestly, set up is a breeze, the straps are a little different, but nothing too crazy. Every piece is we'll thought out. I love how it connects well with other Kammok products. Pongo pad, Bobcat.. It all works together and well. Kammok products are super durable and feel amazing even after use after use. I feel confident in my purchases from this company not only because of their commitment to the environment and encouraging us all to Get Outside more. Their lifetime warranty is huge. I'm a fan for life.

I’ve been backpack hammock camping for 15+ years, starting with an Eno and then a Hennessey, with a couple others I’ve tried in between. Still have the others, but the Mantis UL is my go-to. The weight and simple clip and strapping systems are the main likes, but the overall design is great! The zip-out net, the two tone, the integrated bag. If I can suggest, please add a simple gear loft instead of “wing” storage, and still waiting for the winter zip-in feature to come back.

THE Ultimate UL Backpacking Hammock Tent

I absolutely LOVE my Mantis UL. I've used it for a total of two months in a variety of different scenarios. The Mantis UL is incredibly versatile and customizable for whichever scenario you might find. Hiking in a bug-less season? Save a few ounces and leave the integrated big net behind. Camping in Colorado? The included rain tarp is perfect for keeping you dry in the afternoon storms. My favorite aspect of the Mantis UL is how compact EVERYTHING packs down. It's comparable to the size of my single person trekking pole tent. Having the tarp and hammock stored in the same bag also is very nice: if I need to set up camp in the rain, I can quickly set up the tarp in no more than 20 seconds and then set up the hammock under the cover of the tarp. I've used the Mantis UL in cold weather and in hot weather, rain and shine, and it's excelled in all. It's one of my favorite pieces of gear, and I highly recommend it to all.
