Learning Resources Magnetic Addition Machine

Each morning, we count "how many friends are here." We use Learning Resources large ten frames to model the number and we have began creating addition sentences with the blue plus the green. I love how this gives them a visual of actually adding the blue and the green to accompany the ten frame model.

This toy is perfect for my 4 year old son who is learning addition & subtraction in preschool. It is a great way to visualize the concepts, and he has a lot of fun "practicing his math." The pieces are sturdy and holding up really nicely. The magnetic element makes this perfect for the side of our refrigerator. I do wish a little dry erase board and marker came with it, since not everyone will have a dry erase board or chalk board to attach it to. But, it is a great product that promotes learning in a new and interesting way. I would definitely recommend it!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We used this adding machine for a fun center activity. The students loved it and it was easy to explain to them. I made cards with numbers and dots that coordinated to the machine and then we made them take pictures of the machine once they solved the problem using an app we use at school. It was a fun way to work on our addition facts other than paper and pen or the traditional manipulatives.

This product would be great for any younger elementary aged student who is learning addition. It was colorful and visually appealing. The box is sturdy and allows for storage. The instructions were included, but not needed; the toy was self explanatory. Students enjoyed using the addition machine and wanted there to be more "machines" for all operations! I enjoyed using it as a quick and easy center inside math. There are great opportunities to learn with this toy, especially with younger elementary age children. I would recommend this to anyone who is wanting to learn their addition facts.

I am an elementary teacher in Illinois and this is a great product for teaching students addition. The colors of the product are vibrant and not gender specific. The instructions are easy to follow. Warnings are clearly labeled on the box for choking hazareds and the box is attractive and true to the materials enclosed in the package. I would recommend this to any teacher who wants to make teaching addition interactive. I recommended it to my sister who home schools her children as well. She has put hers on her fridge and both of her children enjoy taking turns using the adding machine while she cooks dinner.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I work in a Kindergarten class and used this with two children at a time to work on adding. The hands on nature kept them engaged, the colored balls helped them manage one to one counting and drove home the concept of addition. Children of different levels were able to play together and take turns. It was so engaging that children felt successful and did not seem to notice if they were playing with someone who was at a more advanced level. It was a bit difficult to line up the ramps so the balls didn't bounce out; and when those balls hit the floor they roll fast! Parents or teachers definitely have to help set up the ramps so this toy can be used successfully; with markers on the magnet board, the kids would be able to set it up themselves, though. I do wish there was a table top magnet board included. This activity is best used with a small group of 2-5 children.

The toy is sturdy and the perfect size for his hands. The two different colored balls help me in terms of creating more challenging word problems for him to solve! The only downside is no where on the box does it say REQUIRES a magnetic surface. It simply states use on any magnetic surface. We have a stainless steel fridge and do not own a white board. It's difficult for me to stand there forever holding the toy at my son's height for him to play. We got creative and used packing tape but still would be nice to know about the magnets ahead of time. Overall, a great, creative way to get kids into learning addition and subtraction.

The students enjoyed being able to use this on a magnetic white board. They used the 2 colored balls and added them together. I like the funnel, as it brings an element of fun for my kindergartners. For most students I can see using it to review addition, and subtraction. For my higher performing kindergartners, I can see using this to learn about fact families too. This product is very durable, and it worked very well as a small group center. I would recommend this product to my colleagues.

I put this game up on our classroom white board and the kids loved it. They had fun playing addition games .The only problem they kept having was that the magnets on the blue and green cups were not secure and kept falling off. This left the counters all over the floor. I would say this is a fun way for kids to practice addition. I did receive this product as part of an incentivized review program.

I received this product as part of an incentive review program. I love the fact that it's magnetic and it sticks on my white board. It's sturdy and durable. It can withstand daily use. This product is so interactive! I used it in conjunction with a first grade lesson on function boxes ("What's My Rule?" for Everyday Math Users). It helped provide the differentiation that my special needs/at risk students needed to be successful with this task. I can honestly say that they were very engaged! They loved manipulating the brightly colored balls and watching them come down the funnel as they added them together. I recommend it for Pre-K-K general education students or as a tool for older students who are struggling with addition and/or number sense.

I received this product as part of an incentivized review program. My students love using for adding numbers. It is very hands on and visual. I wish that there was a large cup to hold all the balls in so you had a place to put the ones you weren't using at the time. I also wish the tray went past 10. Overall I liked this product and think it is very useful for 1st grade when finding ways to make 10.

my kindergarten students loved this and we got it as an incentivized review program product.... I love it and my students have built more confidence in themselves with adding problems and also using it for how many more do I need to get to 10 and then I wrote numbers under it in place of the magnetic strip to help them work on how many more do I need to get to 15 to help build those skills up. They are loving it
