Basically this thing is a toy and not really playable. Action is too high and tuners are not usable... I tried to return it but I would have had to pay the return shipping. ??

Found this on sale for 40 USD mid June '21 and it is *fantastic* for that price. But then, I still can't get over how good the cheap guitars are these days. Everything looks in order; no blemishes, looks straight. Strings are not my usual but interesting to try. Gig bag a little trashy but this little guy is just to plop on the floor by my computer station to do spot practice and songwriting when ideas pop up.

A Beautiful Instrument Which Sounds As Good As It Looks

First: this guitar was received within 23 hrs of my placing the order!! I'm not sure how this was even possible... Second: it arrived in a damaged box which appeared both sliced and crumbled. Fortunately, the guitar was undamaged. Third: my first visual and hold - the finish is beautiful and the guitar does not "feel" cheap (or inexpensive). Fourth: the strings are new and untrimmed. I unwound them a bit to clip a bit off the ends (and then stretched them as I tuned them). It took several days for the nylon strings to stabilize and they required frequent tuning. Once stable, they no longer require daily tuning (but I do it by habit). Fifth: There at two areas on the back of the guitar with scratches of several inches length. (image attached) The upper one appears to have happened after finishing (perhaps during shipping). The lower "marks" are under the finishing and look like heavy pencil or marker lines under the coating. This one (shaped kind of like a tilted "K") appears to have slipped through your quality control. Neither affect the sound in the least. The upper scratch is clearly visible. The lower is MUCH longer / bigger, but practically invisible in normal light. I was playing the guitar outside in direct sunlight when I first saw it. Again, neither affect the sound quality of the instrument. Sixth: the "gig-bag" is a functional dustcover / carry-all. It will NOT protect the guitar from any but the most trivial bumps. Having said that, it is FAR better than some of the "gig-bags" I've gotten for "free" with other more expensive guitars. It has a handle and unpadded shoulder straps. Finally: I have shown (and played) this to / for friends and family and have received three unsolicited comments about how beautiful this guitar is. It is! It sounds as good as it looks! And it looks better in your hands than it does on the screen images (which look rather flat). The guitar has a beautiful color and a high luster / polished finish. Recommendation: I would highly recommend this guitar to any one thinking of beginning guitar lessons or with a child who would like to learn guitar. You / they will certainly outgrow this within a year, but you'll keep it handy and pick it up frequently because if it gets a little banged up, it can be easily (and inexpensively) replaced. I bought this specifically to keep laying around, for quick pickup to practice chords and scales. It will certainly exceed those simple requirements.

Back Up Plan Guitar Good for the money if you like a flat fret board.

I am reviewing this guitar only because a request for a review came my way. I was impressed that it had a decent truss rod and plays fine when tuned up. I am not crazy about the flat fret board or the width of the neck. Of course I purchased this for a back up plan for my mother in law that likes nylon strings. I find they don't hold tune well, nylon strings that is. I gave it 4 stars because for the price it is well deserving of 4 stars for what it is. I did some work on her old Gibson she wanted nylon strings on and this guitar was in case the project did not go well. She will have both guitars. The old Gibson project worked out fine. I'll stick to wire strings no nylon for me.

I needed a beginner nylon string guitar for my kids. This guitar did the trick. I looked at quite a few different options including cheap direct Chinese options, but this seemed like the best option. I was very pleased. The top strings have a little trouble holding a tune day to day, but especially for the money, this is a great product.

I like it. I don't know how to play the guitar, but I enjoy trying to get sounds out of it, and maybe I will learn to play melodies. I don't need a lot of extras as of yet and the simplicity of this instrument suits me fine at the moment.

Great guitar for beginners! Got this guitar for my nephew (he's 8)to try and learn while we're under lockdown. And he loves it! He even carries it around in the gig bag around the house. It's the perfect size for him as a kid to be able to reach the frets with some ease. The only thing I noticed is that the strings aren't the best sounding but that's normal with any new guitar you buy. I just gave him my extra set of Ernie Ball strings.

Top strings buzzing.

The first string buzzes up to the 7th fret. The second string also buzzes. The action is where it should be but I'll have to install another bridge saddle to stop the buzzing. The intonation goes off higher on the neck. The positive: The sound is not bad for the price.

I purchased for my 9 year old daughter who became interested in learning after plunking around on mine. A full sized guitar wasn’t comfortable for her, so I was looking for a 3/4 acoustic, with nylon strings. Although, I probably could have gotten her steel strings, because she has adapted well and hasn’t complained about her fingers overly hurting. Once the strings have been properly tuned and stretched, the guitar does surprisingly well at staying in tune. The only one bad thing that I’ve noticed is that around the middle of the neck, the 11th fret I believe, there is some very noticeable fret buzz. However, this being a learner’s guitar for someone deciding whether she wants to practice and play this every day and into the future – I don’t see this being a problem. Once she gets good enough to be playing up around there, I would imagine we’ll be looking for a different, full sized guitar for her anyway.

$50 Mini Nylon Value

Had to send the first one back due to the high e nut slot being almost on the edge of the fingerboard, ultra high action, and white material all over the neck and frets. The second one has better action and better nut placement so the high e isn't falling off the finger board. Frets are pretty sharp so I will probably file them. This is a beginner guitar for a small person and a good value if you can get one with low enough action to make playing easy. I wouldn't worry about tone or a bit of fret buzz as the point of a tiny guitar is getting a guitar that makes playing easy and fun.

When something goes wrong, that is when we find out what a company is made of. Monoprice nailed it.

I bought this guitar as a living room guitar that my family could play anytime in the living room without disturbing others. I've purchased Monoprice gear in the past and have been extremely pleased with the value for the amount paid. This guitar keeps that Monoprice philosophy going for sure! This is the second 3/4 classical I received from the company. The first one had two large blemishes on the front. I received the guitar on a week day and sent an email the following Sunday to Monoprice. They responded back to me right away, on the weekend. The company continued to contact me until the issues were resolved. They sent a return authorization. I sent the guitar back and received a new one quickly. What else could you ask for? Monoprice has earned my loyalty as a customer. Now on to the guitar, Pros and Cons. Pros: 1) The price. Less than $60.00 and it is built very well. 2) The sound. It rings, has good sustain and the tone is even with very good projection. The perfect practice instrument. It has a plywood top, but it still sounds great. 3)The finish, almost perfect. For this price that is saying a lot. There are some missed spots on the back of the headstock. This is not uncommon for value classical guitars. It's a hard place to put the finish on perfectly, a place where you don't normally look and does not effect the sound at all. 4) No sharp fret ends! This is nice for this price! On inexpensive guitars it is almost guaranteed that you have to file the frets. Not on this little gem! 5) Since this is a 3/4 classical the string tension is very playable. Great for new players getting used to a guitar. 6) It comes with a gig bag, not a great one, but, it will help prevent damage and you can transport is carefully and at least have a cover for the instrument. 7) Since this is a 3/4 size guitar with a classical fret board the strings are easy to push down and you don't run into other frets, like I do on my other 3/4 guitar, which is a steel string, making the steel string harder to play. Cons: 1)The action is kind of high, not uncommon for this price, but is also means that if the frets are not perfect you don't have to put up with buzzing. 2) Since the action is a little high, it seems to throw off the intonation a little. I will work on this, but, I am not too worried about it, since it is a living room practice instrument. It's on my to do list. 3) It does not have a truss rod. For less than $60.00, do you really expect a truss rod? I do not expect the neck to move much since it is kind of thick, but, a truss rod would be nice. Conclusion: This is a solid value. A solid company that responds to customer needs. I think this is the best value for an inexpensive classical guitar. I think this is a gigable instrument with a little work and perfect as a first instrument or practice guitar. I look forward to many more purchases from Monoprice!
