Monte's Original Tomato Sauce - 24oz

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am always looking for ready to use tomato sauce that taste like homemade and I think I just found my family’s new favorite. As soon as I opened the jar, the aroma was amazing. I tasted the sauce before even heating it up and it was delicious. I added Monte’s sauce to lobster ravioli for dinner and it was a perfect pairing with the sweet lobster filling and the savory sauce. It was so good we all had seconds! The sauce is thin and not chunky or thick. It reminds me of the way sauce is traditionally made, no tomato paste and truly authentic. I love that the ingredients are tomatoes, water, olive oil and spices. You can tell this sauce is made with quality ingredients because it’s not tart or acidic and there’s no added sugar. It’s a little pricey for a twenty four ounce jar because it’s not enough to serve with a pound of pasta especially if you like it saucy like my family does. I don’t mind paying a little more for quality food that’s ready to serve I received an incentive to write this review.

We added some fresh garlic to this sauce because we are garlic lovers but I honestly think this sauce would have been great without the garlic addition. My whole family gobbled it up leaving no leftovers. I will definitely be purchasing this sauce again and using it to experiement with other dishes. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Ahhh this is a great neutral basic sauce for pasta. The jar contains a decent portion to power 2lbs of beef easily. It contains very good ingredients, no fillers or preservatives or seed oils. It’s olive oil. Very happy with the rich and fresh taste. Neither too salty nor too acidic. It’s almost restaurant quality. Goes well with grated Parmesan. Only downside is it’s a bit pricey. I received an incentive to write this review.

Jarred sauce does not usually live up to the sauces you can buy locally but this one is quite good. Not too much acidity, this was a perfect compliment to the spaghetti squash I grew this summer, especially with the addition of some freshly grated Parmesan. I prefer spaghetti sauce that does not have sugar in it and this is it! The flavor is rich and the color is an excellent bright red color. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I purchased this jar of tomato sauce because I wanted to try a new pasta sauce in my penne chicken pasta recipe. I really wanted to like this sauce, but it just doesn’t beat the normal sauce I buy or the kind that I make at home. The sauce in my opinion is pretty boring. It is super thin and runny, a little too sweet for my liking, and I mainly taste vinegar and onion and not much else in way of spices. I tried them with my mozzarella sticks, and they had too much vinegar, and I tried them with my pasta, which is OK but I just don’t care for the flavor. I received an incentive to write this review.

My son loves it, he likes his pasta pretty simple so this is perfect to have on hand for a quick meal for both of us. It’s not overwhelming acidic or too seasoned which is perfect for my picky kids. This worked great on spaghetti but I’m thinking about using it in so many other dishes. I was surprised about how thin it was though. I will say that this sauce is very light and creamy - which is what I prefer. So if you like a chunky tomato sauce, this particular one might not be for you. However, I really did enjoy it! There is so much flavor built into this tomato sauce with the herbs and spices being garlic, shallots, basil, and onions. It’s so minimal ingredients and so yummy. It almost seems as though it is watered down. It did make a delicious meal, however I think I would add some more spices to make it more flavorful. I though the sauce had a nice tang to it and it coated the pasta easily since it is thinner. There are visible bits of herbs in the sauce which of course make up the flavor. I appreciate how the ingredients are listed clearly without any catch-all mystery ingredients and how dairy free and gluten free designations are both clearly labeled. This sauce has a very nice texture to it and I love that it is made with real quality clean ingredients! We purchase the original flavor and it has a great taste to it without overpowering spice. The texture was a bit more thin/watery than I’m used to with other sauces. We heated it on the stove and prepared it with some pasta using the jar’s recommended “for best results” (transferring pasta al dente into sauce simmering and stirring in to finish cooking the pasta). My picky 3 year old really liked it, but I thought it could use more flavor. I think this sauce could be great as a neutral tomato sauce base adding your own extra ingredients to liven it up without competing or clashing flavors. I think I was expecting more for a sauce labeled “best overall sauce”, but I appreciate the fresh taste and clean ingredients. I personally won’t repurchase this as a standalone sauce for pasta but would buy it again if I need a fresh tasting base tomato sauce I want to spice up with other ingredients. It did need some additional seasonings to bring out its flavor (I wouldn’t eat it straight from the jar without some spice enhancements). With that extra umph, even my more particular kid liked it and said “yum!” That in itself is telling. The sauce was thick and held the side of the cup also making I perfect to mix in this casserole. Not too salty. You could tell there was oil used and really added to the taste and grab it had.
