New Year's Day 1970

Teresa Forde is now married, with three daughters. She suffers deep scars from the trauma inflicted thirty years ago, and with the recent death of her husband, has grown increasingly fragile. Caring for her falls to her eldest daughter, Abigail. On the first day of the new millennium, Abigail returns to their home to find her sister, Leanora, brutally murdered. Her mother Teresa has vanished. Detective Julia Harte is called in to investigate. This case is unusual; two women - mother and daughter - vanished without a trace, thirty years apart.
