Description

Book Synopsis

The Duke of Huntington has no interest in an eccentric redhead who frowns at him over her spectacles...until he realizes that she is the only possible duchess for him. A new enemies-to-lovers romance by New York Times bestselling author Eloisa James.

Bespeckled and freckled, Lady Stella Corsham at least has a dowry that has attracted a crowd of fortune-hunting suitors--which definitely doesn't include the sinfully handsome Silvester Parnell, Duke of Huntington, who laughingly calls her "Specs" as he chases after elegant rivals.

And then--

The worst happens. Marriage.

To the duke. To a man marrying her for all the wrong reasons.

How can Silvester possibly convince Stella that he's fallen in love with the quirky woman he married?

The cover model is gorgeous...yet the heroine of the book has self esteem issues regarding her glasses and freckles. I would have liked to see the cover model with glasses and freckles! Having said that, I felt like I was re-reading the second book in this series as I began this book. Kind of a rehash of all the things that happened previously. If you hadn't read this series from the beginning, going over so much might have been beneficial. For the reader who HAS read the series, it just dragged and I kept thinking, is this really a new book? Sylvester was a bit of a prig and I can't believe Stella was pining for him. He treated her badly, until he didn't. When Stella was 'forced' to marry him, we finally get to see some love and affection! Typical male... I did finally enjoy the book and the ending. I hope Blanche comes around and becomes more of a real friend to Stella and Lydia can take her husband and disappear as far as I'm concerned. She was so awful!

4 Stars! This is the 3rd book in the ‘Would-Be Wallflowers’ series & can be read as a standalone. I really liked the female main character, Lady Stella. She was a spitfire that didn’t take poo from nobody & reminded me of me, freckles, glasses, shortness, clumsiness, chubbiness & all! The main male character, Silvester, the Duke of Huntington, I was on the fence about. Sometimes I liked him, sometimes I didn’t. I don’t think he had to grovel enough and didn’t really convince me of his love for Lady Stella. He was kind of a huge ‘Richard’ & did whatever he had to to win. The woman he was in love with for most of the book was Lady Yasmine, her story is told in the second book of the series and I wish more of her story was mentioned in this book since I didn’t get to read book 2. All in all, this was an entertaining book with an HEA ending, eccentric duchesses, and a few steamy ‘sexy times’ scenes. Worth checking out if you like historical regency romance. *I received this at no charge & I voluntarily left this review.*
