Philips Norelco 5000 Beard Trimmer

The comb guard design completely prevents this trimmer from working on softer facial hair. Because the thick guard frame creates a thick plastic barrier, the guard flattens hair against the skin before it can reach the blades. For me, at settings above 1 mm, it missed almost every hair. Unless you have stiff, coarse stubble that stands straight up, this guard will not trim effectively. Very disappointing performance. I am returning this item and hope Philips reaches out to let me test the Series 5000 BT5775 instead, as its open-prong design looks like it actually allows soft hair to hit the blades directly.

I use this to maintain a short beard and find it works very well. The hair catcher is particularly effective and helps reduce mess.

I've got very sensitive skin and have always used a beard trimmer without the guard on to shave as other methods cause me issues. This beard trimmer was just what I needed and trims close enough without the guard on without causing me any skin irritation or issues such as I have had with other trimmers. Excellent product.

The precision dial for making adjustments is brilliant fast and so accurate with both attachments big and small. It is a great for stubble control and shaping. The trimmer has a built in hair collector, it is a good add although it doesnt collect much hair although it does not need to be used. Battery time is great, 5 minute charge for a quick trim. Fully washable. Definitely pay attention when removing heads as the pins that clip in feel like they would snap easily. Would recommend.

The ability to change the length you want cut with the simple twist of the dial allows me to quickly change the length without having to spend much time fiddling around with different guards. The ability to have the cut hair be caught in a compartment on the device is a great time saver for clean-up, as I simply have to empty the piece instead of wiping down the sink. It has a nice weight to it and is made of sturdy material that is finished to a high standard. It trims to different lengths which are adjustable using the dial on the trimmer making it very easy to use. The hair collector is a massive bonus, something which most products do not have which I believe separates this from the rest of the market. No more mess trying to pick up a load of hair, it’s all collected and can be emptied easily. Overall this is a really strong product by Phillips and would highly recommend to anyone who uses a beard trimmer without a hair collection device

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It was an easy to use device. Quick to setup and charge. One issue being that I needed to supply a usb to socket adaptor. Not an issue but felt like it could have been included. Charging was simple and quick so tried my first shave with the clipping catcher attached. It took a bit to get the setting for the height to what I wanted but I loved the fact I did not have to swap heads just turn a dial. First shave I was disappointed it felt rough and not like its normal smooth shave. I tried my normal shaver and it gave a light trim and all normal. Second time trying I removed the clipping catcher and suddenly I got my normal smooth shave.
