Love Pig the Pug but Not My Favorite

Our daughter discovered Pig the Pug books at the school library. We typically love the funny yet effective way they deliver positive messages, especially for our kiddo who behaves like Pig the Pug from time to time. This one missed the mark for me. I agree with another reviewer - I wasn’t thrilled about the word loser in a children’s book. That’s not a word in our kind vocabulary. However, the story felt rushed and the ending incomplete. I thought, that’s it? Where’s the positive message about greed? I can’t even really tell if the ending is supposed to be a religious angle, but that’s the only assumption I can muster. I had bought a couple extras to give as Christmas gifts, but I changed my mind and donated them instead.

I bought these books for my toddler grandkids, but their parents and my older kids loved them just as much. The illustrations are amazing and the stories are funny and so relevant!

We LOVED Pig the Pug and got excited about the other books in the series. I picked up Pig The Elf for the holiday season to read to our toddler but I was turned off after reading the word loser. Maybe it’s not a huge deal, I don’t know. I just don’t want my little mockingbird saying loser. Returning.
