Description

Book Synopsis

This isn't a feel-good memoir. It's a gut-punch of a survival story. Told from mile eighty-five of a hundred-mile ultramarathon--bleeding, hallucinating, alone in the dark--it pulls you back through the real endurance races: surviving addiction, institutional abuse, and a childhood full of chaos. From a wilderness rehab program where kids hiked for days without food, to a "therapeutic" boarding school run by predators, this is the unvarnished account of how a kid fell hard and got back up even harder. But this isn't just about the wreckage. It's about what comes after. Firefighting. Fatherhood. Finding peace on trails where every step hurts like hell but heals something deeper. It's about learning that rock bottom isn't the end--it's the foundation.-- (5/4/2026 12:00:00 AM)

About the Author

Ultrarunner Andrew Glaze has completed some of the world's toughest endurance races, including the 300-mile Arizona Monster, Ultra-Trail du Mont Blanc, Cocodona 250, and countless hundred-milers. Known for his consistency and love of pushing limits, Andy had maintained a streak of running at least a hundred miles every week for 289 consecutive weeks, and his mantra, ""Smile, or you're doing it wrong"" captures the joy he brings to even the hardest miles. When he's not on the trails, Andy serves as a battalion chief with the La Verne Fire Department in Southern California, where he has built his career around leadership, service, and resilience. His story of transformation from an anxious, unhealthy lifestyle to becoming a firefighter and one of the most consistent ultrarunners alive continues to inspire hundreds of thousands who follow his journey on Instagram, TikTok, and Strava. He lives in Redlands, California, with his wife, Lauren, and their three children.
