Description

If you use VCF, neither you nor your partner will be able to tell it’s there. This means you can enjoy sex with the knowledge that you are protected. VCF is the most comfortable spermicide ever developed. There are no bulky inserts that you have to leave in, no applicators to insert or clean. Since VCF doesn’t’ contain a lot of inactive ingredients like foams or gels, it isn’t runny or messy. It will simply wash away with your body’s natural fluids.

Effectiveness of any contraceptive method is directly related to the accuracy and consistency with which the method is used. Therefore, it’s important that you follow the directions carefully, otherwise, as with any contraceptive, reliability cannot be assured. This method of birth control must be used each and every time you have sex, regardless of the time of the month or the time of last application. Ask a doctor before use if you have been told that you should not become pregnant. Remember, no product can guarantee 100% effectiveness in pregnancy prevention.

Stop use and ask a doctor if

Stop use and ask a doctor if : you or your partner get burning, itching, a rash, or other irritation of the vagina or penis.

Directions

Before using this product, read the enclosed package insert for complete directions and information. Be sure your fingers are dry before touching the film. Insert one film and place as far into the vagina as possible against the cervix. Insert VCF not less than 15 minutes and not more than 3 hours before intercourse. Use one film before each act of intercourse.

Other information

Studies have raised safety concerns that products containing the spermicide nonoxynol-9 can irritate the vagina and rectum. Sometimes this irritation has no symptoms. This irritation may increase the risk of getting HIV/AIDS from an infected partner. You can use nonoxynol-9 for birth control with or without a diaphragm or condom if you have sex with only one partner who is not infected with HIV and who has no other sexual partners or HIV risk factors. When used correctly every time you have sex, latex condoms greatly reduce, but do not eliminate, the risk of catching or spreading HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. Use a latex condom without nonoxynol-9 if you or your sex partner has HIV/AIDS, multiple sex partners, or other HIV risk factors. Ask a health professional if you have questions about your best birth control and STD prevention methods. Store at room temperature, 59 degrees - 86 degrees F (15 degrees - 30 Degrees C). Avoid exposure to extremes of hot and cold.

Q: Can a water based lubricant be used along with this during intercourse?

submitted by Rez - 6 years ago
  • A: We use KY. This is not runny and does not work as a lubricant. Make sure you allow it to dissolve for about 15 minutes.

submitted bycandygirl - 6 years ago
  • A: This works with water or oil based lubricant; you must insert the film first and allow it to dissolve.

submitted bykdapothecus - 5 years ago
  • A: Yes, you can use water based lubricant, but I would recommend you insert this first, so it doesn't dissolve on your hands (hands need to be dry). Or you can also consider using a spermicide that could double as a lubricant.

Q: How does this product compare to the VCF Gel, in terms of how effective it is at birth control? Which of the two is better?

submitted by N - 9 months ago
  • A: VCF Gel and Film are 94% effective when used alone and correctly. It does not have as many sideffects as hormonal birth contral and also contains no toxins.

submitted byApothecus - 8 months ago

Q: what would happen if you put all 9 in at once?

submitted by 幸子 - 1 year ago
  • A: The presence of to much of the active ingredient (nonoxynol9) could render the contraceptive ineffective. We do not recommend using more then one (1) film per act of intercourse/ every three (3)hours.

submitted byApothecus - 1 year ago

Q: Will this be more affective if I’m already on birth control?

submitted by Birdie - 3 years ago
  • A: The VCF Film is 94% effective when used alone and correctly. When used with a condom it is 99% effective.

submitted byApothecus - 2 years ago

Q: Will this be more affective if I’m also on birth control?

submitted by Birdie - 3 years ago
  • A: The VCF Film is 94% effective when used alone and correctly. When used with a condom it is 99% effective.

submitted byApothecus - 2 years ago

Q: Can my partner relieve (yk what i mean) himself in me and how far does the product have to go back to work?

submitted by Layla444 - 4 years ago
  • A: Yes, spermicides are meant to allow for ejaculation inside your vagina. Insert the Film as high as possible without causing discomfort.

submitted bykdapothecus - 3 years ago

Q: Does this work and how does it work?

submitted by Yaireh - 4 years ago
  • A: VCF works by manually inserting the film high into the vagina at least 15 minutes before intercourse. Once dissolved it creates a gel coating which contains spermicide that kills sperm on contact for up to 3 hours. When used correctly, VCF can be 94% effective in pregnancy prevention.

submitted bykdapothecus - 4 years ago

Q: so how does this product work im in my teens 15-16 & would like to know how to use it

submitted by umyeah - 4 years ago
  • A: VCF works by manually inserting the film high into the vagina at least 15 minutes before intercourse. Once dissolved it creates a gel coating which contains spermicide that kills sperm on contact for up to 3 hours.

submitted bykdapothecus - 4 years ago

Q: Does it have a taste?

submitted by Sillelyn - 5 years ago
  • A: VCF does not contain any added flavor or scent, but may taste medicinal.

submitted bykdapothecus - 4 years ago

Q: So, if I'm not mistaken, if inserted properly and the 20 minutes is waited prior to intercourse, ejaculating into my partner won't be an issue?

submitted by Jeff - 5 years ago
  • A: Yes, if used correctly, VCF is 94% effective in pregnancy prevention

No room for error when using the film version

I have used the gel and film versions of this product. In comparison, the film is definitely more challenging even if you follow the instructions. When trying to insert the film, it curls up and get stuck on your fingers. I bought the film because I figured I’d give it a try after successfully using the gel version. Umm…yeah, I just had my 2nd child. Apparently, I didn’t insert the film properly.

I would say 70% fail rate. Not worth the money... might as well use the pull out method at that point.

Obviously no birth control is 100% effective, but used in combination with NFP, it has worked for me so far. I'm usually very sensitive when it comes to lubes and other things, but this hasn't given me any troubles. My only tip would be to fold it once more before you put it in, otherwise it will try to melt onto your finger, then it's nearly impossible to get off.

Bri - 11 months ago, Verified purchaser
When you go to insert it, it sticks to your fingers so it takes a lot of jamming and finessing to actually get it to stay in. By the time you get it in, it’s practically dissolved on your fingers. But the product does work as a contraceptive. you just end up wasting a lot of inserts because they’ll stick to your fingers and you have to use a new one. I honestly recommend you just spending the extra money to get the gel inserts. Those ones are an actual gel that you put inside you, so it doesn’t end up sticking to your fingers and you don’t end up wasting a lot of product. This product is horrible and just a waste of money.

Easy to insert after I shower w DRY hands. I do not feel the edges others mentioned, maybe bc I insert fast to avoid it sticking anywhere…It may stick very slightly, just keep pushing it up and it will stay. We don’t notice any smell or odor at all.

Burns! Burns! That ring of fire!

The 28% concentration of this product is so strong it burnt my partner multiple times even when we followed the directions correctly. It is 7 x stronger than the gel. That is one way to prevent pregnancy, but not the intended way.

Hormone free birth control! It works really well! Like other reviewers, the strip is heat sensitive and melts to release the spermicide. I’ve noticed that during insertion if I leave my finger in for a minute it melts off (just a tmi helpful tip)

After about 12 years of using the pill (with many side effects), my doctor recommended trying a hormone-free option. My hubby hates the IUD so my only decent option was spermicide. I've been off the pill for 3 months now and I'm the happiest I've been in a LONG time. I'm also not pregnant. This film is easy to use and definitely works. My only (very minor) gripe is that it has to dissolve for 15 minutes... and sometimes that 15 minutes is tough to wait through. I have the gel applicator also for those RIGHT NOW moments. Both A+ from me.

works but after buying vcf gel pre filled applicators love that wayyyyy MORE for some reason the film was annoying for me to use cause it would dissolve during insertion and it would have pointy corners no matter how small i made it but either way works but i prefer the gel <3

It’s a little hard to get up in there, and it sticks to your finger when you try to pull your finger out, but other than product insertion difficulties, I’m pretty sure it works. Haven’t gotten pregnant yet haha.

boyfriend is allergic to latex and i don't want to get a depo shot, so i've been using this for 2 years. never failed me. i do use as directed, always wait 20 minutes before sex and never more than 2 1/2 hours. it can smell a bit mixed with other fluids, but a small price to pay for safe sex.
