Q: Does the pill cause you to be really thirsty like dehydrated?
submitted by Paola - 3 months ago
A: Hi! Thank you for your question. The most common side effects are related to changes in bleeding pattern. Some people may find their period becomes less or more frequent, shorter or longer, lighter or heavier than before starting Opill®. Some people may also have some spotting or bleeding between periods or stop having periods while taking Opill®. Less common side effects include headaches, dizziness, nausea, increased appetite, abdominal pain, cramps or bloating. Most side effects are mild and often resolve on their own [1]. However, if the side effects are severe or persistent, it is important to talk to a doctor.

No to synthetic hormones!
Wow, that fact that this doesn't need a prescription is concerning. I tried the mini pill and like others here had HORRIBLE side effects. Severe nausea, cramping, bloating, and diarrhea. I thought my body would get used to it and adjust, but it never did. I later found out this is common with synthetic hormones like Progestin, and the harm they do to our bodies over time. Beware ladies! Without a prescription you won't be consulting with a doctor to find out these risks.

Avoid this pill at all costs
I started taking Opill back in September 2025 . Took it for 3 months with no issues . While I have taken several different oral contraceptives in my life this one was the worse as far as my cycle and hormones regulating after stopping this pill . In the past my hormones returned back to normal within a couple months of stopping . My body is JUST now regulating back to normal and it’s been 10 MONTHS since stopping Opill . That is way too long and I started having concerns of fertility at this point .

This is the first birth control I’ve ever tried that does not make my depression a million times worse. Yes it caused 2 periods a month the first 2 months. My body became normal right after that. But other than that, no weight gain, no acne, no mood swings. I am very thankful an accessible birth control like this exists because no birth control is worth your mental sanity!

Not for me
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I didn't really care for this birth control pill although it seems to have been effective since I didnt get pregnant while taking it. I took it every night before bedtime I didn't notice any serious side effects but my skin was breaking out a little bit more on the last pack than when I started taking the first pack. I also had a lot of breakthrough bleeding aside from my normal period I was having a day or two of light bleeding about a week or two before my period was due. I do like that its super convenient to buy without a prescription at my local grocery store

Clearly labeled and compact
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This 3 month supply is great! I love not having to go get a refill every month. The pill itself is super small and yellow, which makes it very easy to swallow. I'm not the best at remembering to take it at the same time every day, but the instructions are clear on what to do when you forget. Great compact packaging, too.

Panic into serenity
I have only taken the Opill for 2 weeks and the side effects this far are mild cramping about 15-30 mins after taking it, some dizziness and much heavier period. I took it on what I thought was my last day of period. I have been bleeding since. Slightly scary but it’s now evened out. Might come back to rewrite review at a later date since it’s still so soon.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Opill is a game changer because having an option that doesn’t require a prescription makes access so much easier and more convenient. I think this can be especially helpful for people who may have difficulty getting an appointment or accessing healthcare. It’s simple to use, easy to add to your daily routine, and has worked wonderfully for me. A great option for those looking for a convenient birth control choice. 💙

Working very well for me (after very bad experiences with other bc)
I've had really bad reactions to the combo pill and to the arm bar- I had given up on bc but I just finished the first pack of these and haven't had a single side effect! I am almost worried they're not doing anything 😅. They have made things feel a lot better in that department which is pretty cool? No complaints at all. If you've had bad experiences with other bc look into what exactly is in them, each has a different mix/amounts of hormones and they really can effect you differently, but you'll never know what you'll experience just by looking at how other people respond. I'm really glad I tried this and didn't just write them off.

I've suffered from extremely long and painful periods for 12 years. January 2026 21 days, May 28 days straight I was miserable. I'm currently into my 2nd month and this medication has been a game changer! I had some spotting month 1, mild headaches. So far 10/10 would recommend! I'm 50, didn't want to opt for surgery this medication Works!

I switched to opill after losing my insurance coverage. It was the best accidental decision I’ve ever made! My body feels so much better on this than my old pill and my husband even says that my breasts have started to look more full than before! I feel more like myself and more in control of my emotions on this contraceptive!
