About the Book
"Thirteen-year-old Ben is sent to a remote reform program for troubled teens by a juvenile court judge. But when he arrives at the camp, located on the edge of the vast wilderness of northwestern Montana, he immediately recognizes that there is something off about the counselors. They're too friendly and upbeat, yet Ben can tell there's an undercurrent of menace. As he gets to know the boys in his cabin, he soon discovers that they each have far more going for them than whatever crime landed them there. And each has a different critical skill, one that could help them unearth what is really going on in this place and how to make it out alive. They are inching ever closer to the truth, and the hidden evil beneath the camp's surface will make itself known in order to deter them"--Book Synopsis
With "an ever-rising tone of dread that builds to a terrifying crescendo" (Marcus Kliewar, author of We Used to Live Here), this unputdownable horror novel follows a teenager searching for answers about the mysterious events and disappearances that plague the wilderness camp for troubled teens he was sent to, taking survival and discipline to a frightening extreme. Thirteen-year-old Ben is sent to an isolated reform program for troubled teens by a juvenile court judge. But when he arrives at the camp, located on the edge of the vast wilderness of northwestern Montana, he immediately recognizes that there is something weird about the counselors. They're too friendly and upbeat...yet Ben can tell there's an undercurrent of menace. As he gets to know the boys in his cabin, he soon discovers that they each have far more going for them than whatever crime landed them there. And each has a different critical skill, one that could help them unearth what is really going on in this place--and how to make it out alive. They are inching ever closer to the truth, but the hidden evil beneath the camp's surface will make itself known in order to deter them. Brooding, clever, and sinister, Wilderness Reform will keep you "in a vice-grip until the very end" (Matt Wesolowski, author of the Six Stories series).Review Quotes

"An artful chiller. OLD COUNTRY stirs up our primal dread of a hostile wilderness, indifferent to man, that's reminiscent of such great works as Algernon Blackwood's THE WENDIGO." -- "Lincoln Child, #1 New York Times bestselling author"
"An extraordinarily assured debut: uncanny yet real, both lyrical and brutal, rich with truth about life and death."-- "Michael Rutger, author of THE ANOMALY"
"Eerie, brooding, and immersive. Wilderness Reform is underscored by an ever-rising tone of dread that builds to a terrifying crescendo."--Marcus Kliewer, author of WE USED TO LIVE HERE
"Propulsive. The Querys nicely work the worldbuilding into the action [and] when the horror elements hit, they hit hard. Fans of Joe Hill and Paul Tremblay will want to check this out." -- "Publishers Weekly"
"What started as the spookiest of tales on Reddit--I should know, as I love them--sparked a tour-de-force of a novel that perfectly renders the tensions of living in isolation and the unforgiving passage of the seasons of the natural world. On top of that, OLD COUNTRY delivers an unyielding sense of dread and suspense. I can't wait for more from the Query brothers." -- "Thomas Olde Heuvelt, author of HEX and ECHO"
"Wilderness Reform simmers with a veritable furore of adolescent rage infused with a rich vein of crawling terror. Its claws held me in a vice-grip until the very end. Genuinely unnerving, unfolding horror of the very best kind."--Matt Wesolowski author of the SIX STORIES series
