Q: Target, is this a different formulation from the previous Up & Up witch hazel, which had "86% witch hazel" as the sole active ingredient, and 14% alcohol as the sole inactive ingredient?

submitted by AD - 7 months ago
  • A: This is not witch hazel. I am not sure how they can even sell it as witch hazel. It is fourth on the ingredients list. But most worrysome is the lack of any sort of safety seal.

submitted byOldMiGuy - 3 months ago
  • A: It appears so. It has a bunch of different added ingredients and doesn’t even smell like witch Hazel. When I use it, it feels a little sticky too. Definitely going to return it.

submitted byKristenT - 3 months ago
  • A: I noticed an ingredient change this weekend. Since witch hazel is the fourth ingredient I don’t think it’s 86%.

  • A: Glad I checked here. Just opened a new container, no safety seal, and it didn't smell like witch hazel, and it foamed a bit like its soapy. So I put a little in my hand and it felt oily and soapy. I'm going to return it, something isn't right. I've used Target brand for several years, but they've changed something.

Q: Is it normal for this product to not have a safety seal? I bought three bottles so it doesn't seem to be a one time mistake.

submitted by Me - 1 year ago
  • A: I bought 4 and none of them were sealed properly. No seal whatsoever. I'm going to try to return them, but fear they'll be refused because theyhave no safety seals, but this is more like water.

  • A: Mine didn’t have one on it and I returned it.

Q: Hi, what is the proportion of witch hazel and alcohol?

submitted by Jade - 1 year ago
  • A: You are right! I can tell the difference between this and other witch hazel products I have used in the past and this one is definitely cheating.

submitted byandistasia - 11 months ago
  • A: If you look at the ingredient order you will see it is 4th on the list. That means very little witch hazel extract was added. Fake. Surprised Target sells it.

Q: Does it remove make up

submitted by J - 3 months ago
  • A: Hi J - Thank you for reaching out. We appreciate your interest in Witch Hazel Astringent. Yes, it can be used to remove makeup as a first step, as it's described as a multi-purpose toner that helps remove dirt, excess oil, and impurities. However, for long-wearing or heavy makeup, you may need a dedicated makeup remover to effectively clean your skin. Happy Shopping!! - Emma

Poor packaging

Issue is with shipping rather than item. The lid was not secured and the bottle leaked through the box and onto other items. Typically liquid items have the lid taped down and they’re put in a separate plastic bag. This was not the case this time. This particular box also included a jug of cat litter, so it was heavy and there was no cushioning so everything was jostling around in the box. The box was in fact damaged from this. Fortunately, the items leaked onto were in waterproof packaging, but I’m very disappointed with target shipping.

NO SAFETY SEAL! NOT WITCH HAZEL! DO NOT BUY!!!

NOT WITCH HAZEL! NO SAFETY SEAL! DO NOT BUY!! This is water, alchohol, gycerine and maybe a few drops of witch hazel extract in an unsafe, unsealed bottle. It would be more accurate to label it as "Water" or "Gycerine". Shame on you Target! Sad.

What is this?

First and foremost why isn’t there a liner covering the bottle? When I opened it, I was surprised that there was no seal. I then noticed that it didn’t smell like witch hazel at all! For all I know, it could have been water or something. I blame myself for not sticking to the name brand witch hazel. I’m returning it!!

Not really witch hazel

It’s annoying that witch hazel is the third ingredient. I think the packaging is really misleading that all it says is witch hazel - not added with or anything and then you read the ingredients and it’s super watered down and full of other stuff. I will stick to Walmarts 100% witch hazel.

Not good

This definitely isn’t witch hazel. It smells nothing like it and left a weird residue on my face. I don’t recommend it at all.

Not Witch Hazel

This is not witch hazel. It has some witch hazel in it but mostly water and alcohol with other additives. This is mislabeled.

As Expected

Just as good as the name brand. I’ve purchased this one multiple times. My primary use for it is to put it on a cotton pad and swipe over my whole face after washing my face in the shower.

Better than Thayer's!!!

I have used the more expensive Thayer's witchazel for ages. But this has the same ingredients for much less. I buy these by the hand full and want to make sure these negative reviews don't influence people. If a fragrance free Thayer's witchazel alternative is needed to save money- This is it!!!

Terrible product - leaves an unpleasnt coating on your skin

I have used With Hazel for many years, and I've watched with dismay as the price has increased greatly, long before our recent/current inflation. So I was happy to see that Target has started putting out its own brand of Witch Hazel, at a lower price than brand names. So I bought a bottle, and I started using it this week, as I typically do, as an after shave. I couldn't figure out, the first day, why my skin felt like there was some kind of odd film or coating on it, for hours.. After two more days of using this product, it's quite clear - the Target Witch Hazel is the cause. Real Witch Hazel is pleasant and refreshing, but obviously this is not real Witch Hazel. It's some cheapened imitation - Witch Hazel Distillate is not even the first ingredient on the label. It's a terrible product, and I dumped out the rest of the bottle. It's back to the more expensive Dickinson's and other brands for me. Sometimes, you really do get what you pay for - buyer beware!!
