Beads and shades use materials such as natural wood (tan wooden beads and wood bead shades), crystal or crystal-inspired bead strings, and fabric/terylene shades. Lamp bodies and frames are typically metal or iron.

Shade shapes include rectangle, novelty, bowl, empire, round, cylinder, and drum. Bead placements vary: wooden bead drum shades, cascading or hanging crystal-inspired bead strings, and decorative beaded bases or bodies.
