When a baby is discovered floating in a basket along the quiet canals of Venice, a guild of artisans takes him in and raises him as a son, skilled in each of their trades. Although the boy, Sebastien Trovato, has wrestled with questions of his origins, it isn't until a woman washes ashore on his lagoon island that answers begin to emerge. In hunting down his story, Sebastien must make a choice that could alter not just his own future, but also that of the beloved floating city.

Daniel Goodman is given a fresh start in life as the century turns. Hoping to redeem a past laden with regrets, he is sent on an assignment from California to Venice to procure and translate a rare book. There, he discovers a city of colliding hope and decay, much like his own life, and a mystery wrapped in the pages of that filigree-covered volume. This multigenerational, alluring tale is exceptional. It is truly a love story at its core while also delivering a mysterious tale of redemption. Dually set in 1807 and 1904, it is a love story of Venice and the people that embrace life through its waters while holding on to the heritage they were born into… preserving its traditions and rebuilding its beauty. Writing in tandem with the romance of the city, its history and its struggles, the author's account is engaging, lyrical, and full of spiritual nuggets she so aptly weaves into her stories. All the Lost Places is a story that asks “Who am I?” in loss and self worth while searching the mystery of that very question and finally finding the answers in the love of our Creator. Jonathan Todd Ross is masterful in his narration of this story. The audiobook kept me spellbound as the Italian accents of its characters transported me to the Venice of old. Like most intricately woven storylines that find their way to the page, this story shares a lot of information for for its dualtime in the beginning. This makes the audiobook a bit hard to follow initially but stick with this book, pay attention to the characters and don’t get distracted or you might miss the foundation of the mysteries it contains. The stories will begin to take shape as you are drawn into the plot. This book is suitable for teens and older with no inappropriate intimate scenes and no bad language.

Daniel Goodman takes on a job that will use his skills with language and sketching. His journey will take him from San Francisco to Venice, where he must search out a long-held secret, the conclusion of a story. A story of a child left adrift and found, a man without a family but raised in love. This is a story of discovery. Two men, living in different centuries seek answers. But this is so much more; this is a story of discovering who you are. This is a work of Historical Fiction, but a thread of mystery runs through it. The story alternates between the two time periods, with more attention given to twentieth century. I loved the prologue. I know some skip it, viewing it as unnecessary. But this one is beautiful - the language is music to the soul as it introduces the reader to Venice. I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.

Reminiscent of the days of Moses, this story begins with a baby boy who is pulled from the waters in his basket refuge. It was interesting to see how these two storylines intersect. And one of the best parts of this book is the imagery. If only you could read with your eyes close, you would be able to see in your mind's eye the streets of this historic city. Smell the smells and greet the people. What an amazing picture this author paints with her words! And finally, the beauty of this story is the lessons that God can use and redeem all people. That our mistakes can always be forgiven and used to show others, teach others, and bring glory to His name! I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions expressed are my own.

I am in the minority here, but I did not connect with this book. Where others found this story filled with touching prose, it fell flat for me. It was too poetic, too many things were hinted at, and too abstract. The characters and settings seemed sad and dreary, even depressing. This was not the first time I have read something by this author, in fact her book, Whose Waves These Are, was amazing. Unfortunately, despite spending lots of time trying, I could not get into this one, and rate it three-stars. Thanks to Bethany House for providing tickmenot a copy of, All the Lost Places, to review. Opinions are obviously all my own.

How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time and that is exactly how you read All the Lost Places so you can savor and digest each bite before moving on. I’m such a fan of this author as she brings such grace and dignity to her stories by stitching the dual timeline together with invisible threads of connection that cumulate into an interesting and amazing conclusion. I love the visuality in the words she pens and being taken into sights and sounds you will never experience. You will be immersed and won’t want to leave as the characters are brought to life and you are left thinking about them. Beautifully told with imaginary, faith, and love. Not just romantic love but a sons love for his mother as he seeks forgiveness. A beautiful example of how God directs our footsteps and how lives are connected. All I can say is please add this to your must read list as you will not be disappointed. Definitely one of my favorite reads this year. I received a complimentary copy from the publisher/author. The honest review and opinions are my own and were not required.

This book touched the deepest parts of my heart and soul. I imagine that anyone fortunate enough to pick up a copy of All the Lost Places and to slip into its story will find a part of themselves in one or more of the characters. I also imagine that the truths imparted will resonate with their own personal story. Any brief synopsis I included here about the story of All the Lost Places would pale against the beauty of the language, setting, and characters. So, I'm not even going to attempt to write one. Let it suffice to say that this novel is one that will live on in its readers' hearts and minds for time upon time. I am grateful to have received a complimentary copy of this novel from Bethany House via NetGalley without obligation. All opinions expressed here are my own.

Oh my! I have inadequate words to describe this beautiful and uplifting story. All the Lost Places starts with a note to readers "To all who have felt lost, or faced the questions that echoes within these pages: "Who am I?" This tale is for you." To say that Author AmandaDykes has an amazing way with words is a vast understatement, her beautiful way with words elevate every story she writes. I took my time savoring this compelling story that begins in California in 1904, but much of the book is set in primarily in Venice at different times in history, mostly 1807 and following, and 1904. Authentic characters and powerful truths gently glide you back and forth in time in the two storylines. Tender, heartwarming, heartbreaking, and hopeful. All the Lost places is a superb example of historical dual timeline fiction with a beautiful yet subtle faith thread. I pre-ordered this book long before I was allowed to read an early copy by the author, publisher, and net galley. All opinions are my own. I highly recommend this grace filled story that really made me think, and delighted me at how it all fit together.

Whenever I think of an author who creates beautiful stories that are full of magnificent images, I think of AmandaDykes, Author. Each book of hers, that I've had the privilege to read, has touched my soul in a deep way. This one is no different. I was captured and taken to a place that I’ve had on my bucket list for many years. Venice, Italy, Wow, she really paints it in a most intriguing way. Now I really do want to go! Amanda is a truly gifted author. She writes dual-time books in such a way that they blend in a seamless fashion. Her stories are brimming with words that are so descriptive and etiquette they will capture you and keep you reading until the very end. From the very first page to the end, this book had me captivated and wanting to read more. I didn’t want to put it down. It really was a book I kept thinking, “just one more page!” and hours later realizing I needed to go to bed. But also, not wanting to finish it because I felt a part of the story. In this story, the question is raised, “Who am I?” I think so often many of us ask that same question. We need to find our purpose, our identity. I loved how a quote from the book truly says it all, “Who are you? You are loved. You are you. You are full of good purpose. You were made for this, your time, and this, your life.” Amanda has woven so many deep truths into this story. You as a reader will want to read all the way to the end of the book. Even the author notes and acknowledgments because the author continues to pour out her heart and soul. It truly is a wonderful book and beautifully written! This story will sit in my heart for days to come. I highly recommend you pick it up. I was given this book by the publisher, which did not influence my review in any way, all thoughts and opinions are my own..
