Needs a Sternum Buckle for Safety!

My 2-year-old twins instantly slipped out of the shoulder straps! Tdiv's 2-star review (and others) also says the shoulder straps seem loose and unsafe. The shoulder straps lack a sternum buckle, standard on every toddler car seat in the world. I purchased cheap plastic buckles from the largest online retailer. Now the straps fit safely and the seat is fine. Thule should warn parents!
Love It!

Our almost 2 year old can't get enough of riding on the back of our E-Bike! She asks every morning if we'll pick her up from Daycare with the bike. Easy to install and position on the banana seat, easy to strap her in, but very secure so she can't get out of her own straps.

Solid child seat. Works great on my Specialized Globe Haul ST. The adjustable choke on the security tether took me a minute to figure out but once I did it allowed me to slide the seat a little further back into the ideal position on the rear rack.
Well built but Could use a little fine tuning

Overall the child seat is well built. Very sturdy once secured to the bike. I would have preferred 2 different positions, like a normal ride and a “sleep” setting for the kid. The one that tilts was out of stock. The locking system is a little cheap but overall it does its job. One thing that really could use an upgrade is the system to tighten the bracket to the bike rack. When turning the knob to tighten it’s very tough to turn and i consistently have to meep “guiding” it.
My Baby loves it!

We like everything about this except for two things. It only has one clasp, so the first time I put my baby in I was worried if it failed. Wished there was a second clasp just in case one failed (like a car seat). Second, one of the feet buckles fell off the first week. Love it itherwise.
Good child seat but could be better

I swapped from a Topeak child seat to this Thule Yepp Nexxt because it is the only child seat that fits on cargo e-bikes. It’s a nice seat and it connects to the back of the cargo bike very easily. I know that this seat is made from a cushy foam, but it’s not padded enough for my son. He kept having red mark on his back by the end of the rides, so I had to add in some additional foam I found online. I also wish that this seat had a crossbar/handlebar like the Topeak. My son really enjoyed holding onto the padded bar. Overall, it’s a good child seat and if you have a cargo bike, it’s really your only option.

A really great, simple, and light weight seat! I wish I could tighten the side clamps a touch more, but the overall fit is solid enough.
Great bike seat.

I ride a Radbike Radwagon 4 and this does not fit my bike. I have to use a ratchet strap to hold the seat on. I have the previous version on my wifes bike (same bike) which works great. It locked on tight with no issues. Purchased this thinking the new one would have improvements and was very disappointed. If you are going to buy this do your research to ensure it fits your bike. Dont be like me and assume that if the previous model fits this one would too.

Really disappointed, our seat didn't function and came damaged.. the knob to tighten to a rack is very unreliable and painful to try and tighten and even when you think it's tight it's not and the seat can fall right off the bike

I understand your frustration with the damaged bike rack shipment. Thule takes every possible precaution to make sure orders arrive in perfect condition, though with the volume of orders shipped, there is a small possibility of damage occurring as with any delivery. In these rare occurrences, Thule works with the purchaser to find a positive resolution. It looks like the Thule representative you worked with offered a return and replacement of the damaged child bike seat. If you have any questions on this resolution or next steps in the process, please reach out to Thule customer support by responding to the case.

Great seat , easy install/unload, great having a lockable option, and most important it's lighter than most other seats on the market. when doing bike touring or even a long commute around town where encountering a big hill, every gram counts. Kids seems to be comfy enough in it too! Since it's so easy to dismantle, we pass between our bikes all the time.
A Decent Seat with Three Critical Flaws

Overall, I appreciate the thought and effort that Thule applied in developing this product. It is a good seat; however, to my mind, there are a few really glaring issues with the product. 1. The harness needs improving. On a recent ride, I felt this pecking in the centre of my back. I stopped to investigate and I discovered that my son had freed his arms and upper body from the harness and that this "pecking" was from the visor of his helmet as his upper body flopped around in the seat. I'll admit, he's an escape artist, but his efforts to "David Blaine" his way to freedom would most likely be thwarted if the harness included a sternum strap. 2. The clamp mechanism that affixes the seat to my pannier rack is finicky and, I feel, it is the most likely part of the rack to malfunction or break. The clamp tightens along two plastic threaded rods. It tightens to the rack with ease, but releasing it is onerous. As per the instructions, I press the key-lock button and turn the knob to release the clamp; however, for our product, it requires some unnecessarily forcible coaxing to get the clamp to engage the threads and loosen. If a part was to break during our time with this product, I am almost certain this would be the one. It is a design or materials selection flaw or both. 3. The last issue is very concerning. It has to do with the guard panel that sits medial/inside my son's legs and protects him from the spinning rear wheel and from splashes of mud and water. This panel flares outward from the midline of the bike and, coincidentally, lines up perfectly with my foot on the pedal. When riding my heel will often strike the panel and, in the worst instances, will knock my foot off the pedal. I have strong bike handling skills, but depending on the circumstances unexpectedly knocking my heel off the pedal can, at best, be an inconvenience and, at worst, outright dangerous. I've thought about taping the edges of the panels together or poking a hole through the panel to zap-strap them to bring them out of the line of my heels on the pedals. Both solutions would work, but I'm left wondering why I should have to make aftermarket modifications to make the product safe to use. This should have been anticipated during the design and prototyping phase of developing this product. For reference, I use the seat on a typical commuter-style road bike with a standard-length pannier rack. I clamp the seat in the back third of the rack; however, I still get heel strikes. Overall, this is a decent bike seat that, aside from these issues, would be an excellent one. With a few aftermarket modifications, I can eliminate some of the issues I've experienced, but this raises the question of how these issues were missed and why the product entered production with these issues unresolved. My previously unwavering confidence in Thule products has faltered.

I’ve been using the Yepp Maxxi seat with my toddler for about 2 years. It’s fine. Recently, the key to lock it stopped working so it could easily be removed from the seat. The harness doesnt feel that safe - like a toddler could slip their shoulders out easily.

I bought this a couple of months ago so I could use my cycle commute for the daycare run. My son says it's comfortable and enjoys the great lines of site the seat provides (that's the compromise between a seat with head support - often ruins the view to the side). The rack based installation is pretty quick and secure. However, the crank to adjust the clamp feels flimsy - I'm not confident it will last very long - you need to screw pretty tight to keep the clamp from sliding forward on the rack. I am going to try with the bespoke Thule rack and see if the clamp is more secure. So -1 star so far. The biggest downside so far is that the five-point harness does not include a sternum strap or clip, e.g., the fastener across the chest (like car seats have) that keeps the straps on the shoulders. A number of times I have now found my son with the straps down around his arms (see photo). So -1 star for this issue. I'd recommend this product if you're willing to add your own sternum strap. Rating 3/5 stars.

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your feedback. Thule child bike seats are manufactured to the same quality standards as the rest of Thule's products and are backed by a limited lifetime warranty. You shouldn't have any problems with the knob, but if it does break, the seat is eligible for replacement under the Thule Guarantee. From the pictures provided, it looks like the straps are sitting too low on your child's shoulders. They should be fitted flush over the shoulders and tightened so they are snug over the torso. If the straps can be moved to the top mounting position, this will help the fit, and allow you to tighten them enough that he cannot slide out easily. If the straps are already at the top connection point on the back of the seat, your child may be too tall to safely ride in the seat. I reached out via email with a few more questions to troubleshoot the fitment!
