Book Synopsis
FEAR HAS ARRIVED. . .CAPTAIN FEAR THAT IS! Get ready for a new suspenseful adventure with Pollywog and her friends.
As Polly Peterson (nickname: Pollywog) settled into her vacation stay with her uncle and aunt in the quaint seaside town of Cape Doom she cannot help but sense a mystery hanging in the salty air. The small seaside town had a secrecy that intrigued Pollywog and her friends, Joey and Henry, from the moment they arrived. Upon their arrival, they quickly make friends with a local boy, Hudson Bell, and his companion, a sturdy English Bulldog, named Molly.
It doesn't take long for the trio of friends to find themselves entangled in a baffling mystery surrounding the legend of Captain Fear, a notorious pirate who sailed the seas with his trusted crew and struck fear in the hearts of people with the mere mention of his name. The residents of Cape Doom swear that Captain Fear still exists and when the eerie fog rolls in, so does his phantom ship.
Pollywog, never one to shy away from a good mystery, vows to uncover the truth about this legend. Is it an elaborate hoax, figment of the townspeople imaginations, or could Captain Fear actually still exist? Undaunted by the eerie tales and unsettling encounters, Pollywog and her friends embark on a mission to unravel this mystery. Pollywog also suspects their new friend, Hudson Bell, knows more than he is telling them and she sets out to discover what that is.
But could discovering the truth be more dangerous than she thinks. . . .
Follow the adventures of three friends who love sleuthing more than anything else. Recommended for ages 6-12

"If you're a fan of adventure tales featuring old legends, pirates, or sleuth mystery-loving tweens, Legend of Captain Fear is the perfect book for you. Author Jill Thomas weaves and absorbing yarn that flies by without a single hitch, with a smooth narrative and an engaging plot that keeps you glued to the pages, wondering what's coming next. Each cast of characters bring something different to the narrative. I liked the dynamic between the four central characters and their interactions, which are almost always entertaining. The mystery is resolved with a satisfying conclusion toward the end, and I thoroughly enjoyed that. I would recommend this book to preteens and young adult readers alike." "Legend of Captain Fear is a children's book, but it kept me on the edge of my seat during many thrilling scenes. Jill Thomas knows how to tell a good story. She is a master of descriptions. Jill perfectly depicted a small town in all its coziness. The mysterious Captain Jack with a hook instead of a hand will capture children's imaginations. Polly is a great character to follow. Jill shows us interesting dynamics in the group of friends, where Polly is an obvious leader. She is curious, like many eleven-year-olds are, is always ready for a good adventure, and sometimes forgets about possible danger. Hudson is wonderfully eccentric with a dry sense of humor. Even Molly the English Bulldog is a vivid character with a great personality. Jill kept me guessing until the very end of the book. Legend of Captain Fear is a read that will instill a love for maritime-themed books in children." - Nino Lobiladze for Readers' Favorite

As readers follow Polly, Joey, and Henry on their journey, they can't help but be enthralled by the story's warmth and charm." Natalie Soine for Readers' Favorite
