Book Synopsis

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue meets This is How You Lose The Time War in this fantastical love story that defies death as two souls reincarnate through the centuries.

They've loved each other in a thousand lifetimes. They've killed each other in every one.

Evelyn can remember all her past lives. She can also remember that in every single one, she's been murdered before her eighteenth birthday by Arden, a supernatural being linked to her soul. The problem is that she's quite fond of the life she's in now, and her little sister needs her in order to stay alive. If Evelyn wants to save her sister, she'll have to find the centuries-old devil who hunts her through each life before they find her first, figure out why she's being hunted and finally break their curse, and try not to fall in love . . . again.

About the Author

LAURA STEVEN is an award-winning author and shameless coffee addict from the northernmost town in England. She has published several books for young adults, including sapphic horror The Society For Soulless Girls, which was shortlisted for the YA Book Prize. The Silvercloak trilogy marks her adult fantasy debut, set in a world where magic is fueled by pleasure and pain. Her books have been widely translated and optioned for TV, and her work has appeared in The i Paper, The Guardian and Buzzfeed. Technically a great book...

3 out of 5 stars

I received an arc from Netgalley and for a while I struggled with what to rate this book. Like I said technically it was great. I loved the concept of this book. It explored more of what I craved for in The Invisible Life Addie Larue. But while it shined in that department I felt like all the short glimpses into the different periods took away slightly from Evelyn and Arden. You know Evelyn loves Arden but for most of the book you only see the pain and aftermath of everything they've gone through. You get brief glimpses into their love but personally I would have liked more. The snapshots felt too short. While the main time period focused on a version of Arden that was heartbreaking. Maybe it all balances each other out but for me it felt lacking. I did enjoy this book. The poetry. The glimpses of both Arden and Evelyn as characters were top tier. It had so much working for it. Then there was the climax of the story. I didn't expect it that's for sure. But it stumbled for me and left me a little confused. Nothing a reread can't fix and since my physical copy has finally arrives I might just do that.
