Q: is this product an oil that you paint on or is it hard like a polish
A: You can wear as just a clear polish; I do 2 or 3 coats. Or I use 2 coats as a base coat, 1 or 2 coats of colored nail polish, and then use this as 1 coat for topcoat (in a day this will oxidize your color making it a bit darker). Better than acrylic nails if your nails peel from too much pool time or if you are a salt water diver. Will make your nails bullet proof.
