Q: What is the width of the wood at the base? That is, how wide is the wood that is actually touching the ground? I want to mount the dresser on hairpin legs and need to know how much surface area I have to mount the legs to.
A: There is not enough surface area to mount legs to as there there is no bottom panel. The chest is supported by the left and right sides and front panel. This type of modification is not advisable.

Q: does the drawer open all the way out?
A: Drawers have a mechanism that stops them at 3/4 of the way out to prevent them from being pulled out unexpectedly. But they can be pulled out completely if necessary.
