Q: what is the band? Is this the thing you turn to close the jar?

Q: What do you mean by band? What is its function/ purpose?
A: HI PO! The band is what holds the lids to the jars during the canning process as well as when the jar is used for storage purposes.

Q: How air- and watertight are these non-canning lids?
A: Hi, thank you for your interest in our products! The Ball Regular Mouth Lids without Bands are canning lids. They will only vacuum seal when pressure or water bath canned. Bands would need to be used with them for dry storage, they are not water tight unless vacuum sealed.
