About this item

Highlights

  • Power: A true 200-watt experience. Unlike most amplifiers or receivers, the Monolith's 200 watts per channel rating is measured with all seven channels driven across the full power bandwidth of 20Hz to 20kHz into 8ohm loads. Additionally, there is no current limiting and there is no protection circuitry in the amplifier circuit path. Even if the speakers' impedance drops to a low level, the Monolith is robust enough that the current is never limited. Dynamics: High resolution audio delivers the best in music and movie soundtracks. You deserve an amplifier capable of delivering clear and clean audio across a wide dynamic range! With a more than 120dB signal to noise ratio, the Monolith 7 can clearly and accurately articulate the quietest portions, the loudest portions, and everything in between. Class AB: More efficient than Class A, many high end, audiophile grade amplifiers utilize a Class AB design.
  • Two Toroidal Transformers: No, these aren't new villains in the next giant robot movie, these are the source of an amplifier's power. Each amplifier channel gets its own set of transformer windings, and also its own storage capacitor. Essentially, each channel has its own power supply – meaning if one channel gets maxed out, the other channels are not affected. Spaghetti Free Zone: Ever look behind a stereo rack and were aghast at the sight of the spaghetti entanglement of dozens of wires? Not here. Neat, clean wiring in tubing designed for the aerospace industry. Clean wiring. Clean layout. Better sound.
  • Circuit Boards: Double sided, glass epoxy boards. Metal film resistors built to 1% tolerances. Stringent quality to ensure each circuit board functions like the last and presents the maximum in sound fidelity. Protection Circuits: These lightning fast, optically coupled circuits are designed to detect electrical shorts from either the speakers, speaker wire, or electrical outlet. If triggered, the circuit will disengage the output, protecting the amplifier. It will then sample the affected circuit every 10 seconds and will restore output when it is safe to do so. Unlike other designs where there is fuse or relay in series with the output, which can raise the damping factor or modify the sound, our protection circuitry monitors the signal actively, but does so optically from outside the circuit path.
  • Silent Cooling: Oversized heat sinks, instead of fans, are used to keep the amplifier as cool and as silent as possible. After all, you bought this bad boy to hear the soundtrack, right? No fans means less dust. Less dust means a longer operating life for your equipment. Enclosure: A rugged chassis with a powder coated finish designed to resist scratches and prevent corrosion. Chassis Mounted RCA Jacks: The gold plated RCA jacks on the Monolith are mounted directly on the chassis, not on a separate internal circuit board. This allows for a firmer connection that won't loosen over time, or worse, break. Thump Free Start: Have you ever turned on your receiver or amplifier and heard a disturbing (and potentially damaging) thump come through your system? The Monolith is engineered with a soft start circuit that gradually powers up the unit, preventing the dreaded speaker thump, while also easing the load on household circuitry. Once fully powered, the circuit is removed from the signal chain to ensure maximum sonic clarity.
  • Dynamics: High resolution audio delivers the best in music and movie soundtracks. You deserve an amplifier capable of delivering clear and clean audio across a wide dynamic range!

Do not underestimate, these are serious amps

I needed more channels so instead of buying another super expensive amp like I had, I purchased two of the Monolith 7X amplifiers. Selling the expensive amp to pay for these. The performance of these amps is so good that your not going to notice any real difference by paying many times more. I don't know about long term reliability, but Monolith amps have been out for a long time now and I have not heard anything negative. The 7X is also backed by a 5 year warranty.

    Built Like a Tank

Pick this thing up and you know you've got a well built amp....my Marantz amp weighed less than half and croaked after about 5 years, not even close to the build quality of the Monolith....sure I won't be replacing this amp anytime soon...sound is pure with no noise whatsoever at idle. Make both movies and music come to life in our system. Highly recommend!!

    Monolith 7x

I'd give it a 5 but had to send my first one back. But other than that I love it. It's heavy but I won't move it for a long time. I have definitive technology speakers and sounded great with my marantz recever. But adding this brings out more details and overall better sound. Thanks monolith and monoprice!

    Made by ATI so.....

I run two ATI AT6000's, a AT6003 and a AT6005 to run my audio. I bought two of these and the Monolith HTP-1 for my home theater. ATI makes these amps and you can hear it/or not hear it when it comes to noise. I have a fully balanced set up and you can crank the volume to 3/4 with no source and not a hear a peep. I have a dedicated 20 amp outlet for each and I ran them on standard 15 amp prior. The 20amp lets those amps run way cooler. Audiophile quality for a fraction of the money. Plenty of power and stable on low ohm loads. I would not doubt if 2 ohm stable.

    Monolithic sound!

This chonky boy replaced my old workhorse B&K 200.7 and is driving a 7 speaker system from Power Sound & Audio (4 towers) and is barely breaking a sweat. The 30 sec delay start up is one of those features I never knew I wanted till I had it, love this unit!

    Customer Care needs improvement

Horrible has been my experience. I was sent a B stock unit instead of new. Three contacts with customer care has resulted in nothing. One chat session and two different emails contact forms. Sent pictures. Been told twice have to check with the warehouse. Great... how long does that take? Been over a week since my first contact. The B stock unit remains in the box. Haven't opened the inner box yet.

    Audiophile Sound

I don't say this lightly. Audiophiles are a peculiar bunch. This amplifier is amazing, is made in America, and unequivocally rivals silicon-based audiophile amplifiers costing 3X to 5X more. This amplifier opens up music in a way I didn't think an amplifier would or could. Suddenly I can hear detail in a way that only headroom from power on demand can produce. My source material is nothing exotic, MP3s encoded at whatever bit-rate, but even with such mundane digital sources the music comes alive. I know such platitudes are commonly used, but if you have good ears and you normally use the amplifier built in to your AVR, you'll hear the difference immediately. This amplifier is simply amazing and an unbelievable bargain. This amplifier is VERY heavy (I had to get new audio equipment furniture to accommodate its weight), but does not get very hot (I put a digital optical thermometer on the case and transistors directly while cranking it), suggesting high efficiency. This amplifier literally draws as much power from the wall as electrically possible. Most amplifier specifications lie. The way you can tell is to calculate the power output capacity from the AC draw. Compare your amplifier's rated AC input draw vs. power amplification claims. Your normal 3-prong AC socket is rated for 15 amps. Most US AC is 120 volts. Thus the absolute maximum you can draw from the wall is 1800 watts. No amplifier is 100% efficient. This amplifier requires the circuit be dedicated to it. It wants the full 1800 watts. Add up the power output per channel multiplied by the number of channels multiplied by the amplifier's efficiency (typically between 50% and 85%) and you get the maximum possible RMS power amp output to the speakers. Amplifiers can briefly peak above their rated power input by drawing power from their built-in capacitors, but these peaks are very transitory and driving to these levels consistently will very quickly cause at a minimum in a well designed amplifier a blown fuse, but more typically audio clipping, and at worst equipment failure. I don't want this to be about me, but I have extensive audio background, having run a professional recording studio for years with equipment costing 100's of thousands, and am a professional musician and home theater enthusiast for decades. This amplifier is a bargain in a way that makes AVRs built-in amplification capabilities insulting. I'm not sure how much is widely known about this amplifier, but if you knew who the source manufacturer is (I do), you would agree. This amplifier puts more expensive and well known brand names to shame. Those other amp's are simply not competitive with this Monolith in engineering, sound quality, features, warranty, or price.

Clean and natural sound from this amplifier. I was hesitant to purchase this am as I am used to amplifiers this good having a much higher price tag. Buy it . It will not disappoint.

    Could have been 5 stars

I?m very happy with the build quality and performance from this amp. My only complaint is a cosmetic issue with the face plate. With bright light you can see a 1? area with white marks in the black brushed finish. At first I was going to return it but given the weight, the hassle of trying to box it up and get a replacement didn?t seem worth it. Who knows if I would have gotten one better or not? Anyway I?m not thrilled about paying two grand for an amp with a blemished or scuffed face plate.

Great at what it does but...

It's a great Amp. I've only two is with it. 1. It's very heavy. 2. The auto-turn on/off switch hasn't worked since day one and I've tried everything. Luckily, it runs very cool. I leave it on at all times. Not sure if that will shorten the life span of the unit or not. All and all, it's a great Amp.
