After more than seven years of dealing with sconces in the master bathroom that I never really liked, I finally decided to move up to something better. The Minka Lavery sconces have a modern elegance that avoids being edgy, so they seem to be good choices to replace the old ones. Quick preview of the summary: The sconces are 5-stars, the instructions are negative 2 stars. The sconces arrived well-packed, with plenty of styrofoam and bubble wrap. The sconces are solid and moderately heavy. They appear well-made. The glass pieces were packed separately from the rest of the unit and had no apparent damage of flaws. I just wish that the tape would have been easier to peel off, but that really wasn't too bad. The sconces come with all of the material needed to install them. That includes a backing plate (that fits over a round electrical box), screws, and 3 wire nuts. Do note, however, that this is not for a complete novice. I'm a pretty good amateur electrician; this proved very helpful for this install as the instructions are some of the worst I've ever seen. Honestly, I have no idea how a manufacturer gets away with instructions like this. There is a tiny and completely unreadable diagram that supposedly shows you how the items fit together. And the text for the instructions is highly confusing and vague. The good news is that there is only a finite number of parts, and with some common sense and experience you can find which holes match the spacing that is needed. And the mounting plate has a large hole in the center that facilitates making the wire connections and then stuffing them back into the box; some mounting plates are not as easy to do this, and it takes some effort to get the wires back in. So at least one aspect of the install was nice. Once you've figured out the installation basics, it mounted fairly easily. The spacing of the mounting studs required wasn't a perfect match with the mounting plate, but it was close enough to be able to get both mounting studs through the holes. A little better precision here would have facilitated the installation, but again this was within the acceptable range to make it work. I put four 60W soft-white light bulbs in the sconces. (Each sconce has two bulb sockets. One points up, the other down.) The glass enclosure then inserts from the top fits behind the two metal rings, and rests on two stops at the bottom. The glass has a nice translucent diffusing property. The combination of the soft white bulbs and the glass piece produces a nice warm light suitable for a bathroom. I used the typically-shaped light bulbs, and do see a dark spot in the middle since the bulbs are both pointed away from the center. Nonetheless, the illumination is nice and this doesn't really detract from it. In summary, this is a well-made and attractive sconce, but its installation is not for a beginner. Get someone to install it who has some experience. You might as well throw out the instructions as at best they don't enhance your ability to install them. At worst, they provide unnecessary confusion.

These are just perfect in my newly remodeled bathroom. They are extremely well made and stylish. I wanted something other than the usual over the mirror lights. I love them. I also love that Lamps Plus always recommends the correct bulbs when you place an order. Make sure you order the recommended bulbs. Makes life easier.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I didn't think I would be able to find sconces in this size and shape that also provided a lot of light--these do. I love the way they look and how flexible they are regarding bulbs. I have them flanking a mirror in my bedroom and used LEDs with a dimmer.

We recently had this installed so haven't actually used the bathroom. But love how the fixture looks and like I said the fact that you can use 2 100 watt bulbs.

Minka does not stand by there products even if the product smells burnt.
