Description

Back to the Roots Organic Indoor Potting Mix Specialty Blend is specially formulated for indoor potted plants. In addition to organic all-purpose plant food, this specialty blend contains perlite for aeration and drainage, coconut coir and yucca extract for moisture control, and dolomitic limestone to help adjust pH. Plus, it has one of nature's most powerful growing ingredients: root-boosting mycorrhizae. Since it's made without bark or compost, it's less prone to indoor gnats. Like all Back to the Roots garden products, this potting soil is peat-free, so it doesn't contribute to harmful greenhouse emissions like some other brands. Pair this soil mix with other Back to the Roots plant products, like seeds, potting soils, and plant foods, for a completely organic solution. The Back to the Roots Organic Indoor Potting Mix Specialty Blend is a great addition to your at-home gardening supplies!

Q: Is this potting mix good to use for braided hibiscus planted in a pot?

submitted by CM26 - 17 days ago
  • A: Hi CM26! Yes, our Organic Indoor Potting Mix is a great soil for a braided hibiscus. You can add some orchid bark to the mix. Hibiscus plants prefer a nutrient-rich, moist, but well-draining soil. Coconut coir provides great water retention, while orchid bark introduces essential chunkiness. This combination creates an airy structure that prevents the potting mix from becoming too dense or waterlogged, which protects the hibiscus's root system from rotting. Feel free to reach out to us at contact@backtotheroots.com, or give us a call at 510-922-9758 with any questions. We're more than happy to help!

Q: Does this soil get a high percentage of knats?

submitted by Naybo - 22 days ago
  • A: Hi Naybo! Our Organic Indoor Potting Mix is specially formulated to be less prone to fungus gnats. The best way to keep them at bay is to avoid overwatering and allow the top few inches to dry out slightly between watering.

Q: Is this soil good for orchids?

submitted by Nayo - 1 month ago
  • A: Hi Nayo! The best potting mix for orchids will depend on the type of orchids you are growing, the location of your orchids, and how you care for them. For example, if you're in an area with a very dry climate, you should select a mix that retains moisture. Feel free to reach out to contact@backtotheroots.com — we're happy to assist you in choosing the right soil for your orchids.

Q: Is this good for orchids

submitted by CocoDuke - 2 months ago
  • A: Hi CocoDuke! Our Organic Indoor Potting Mix is not the best for orchids. The best mix depends on the type of orchid, but generally, a blend of fir bark, perlite, and charcoal works best for providing necessary aeration and moisture retention, allowing roots to breathe and preventing root rot.

Standard stuff

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This soil is pretty standard stuff. It gets the job done but I wouldn’t say there is anything extra impressive about it. I would recommend it but not necessarily over a different brand.

Best yet

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Late review but I’m a person who likes to make sure my plants were not going to die. I’ve purchased potting soils before that were messy and then put my plants in and they died. Back to the Roots is amazing the soil isn’t messy and is very light a fluffy. Anyone who’s purchased a regular bag of potting soil knows what I’m talking about. So easy to use and my plants that I’ve transferred are thriving.

Great quality, my plants love it!

I’m really impressed with this potting mix. It’s light, airy, and doesn't seem to compact easily, which is exactly what my houseplants need. I love that it includes coconut coir and mycorrhizae—it feels much more "premium" than standard big-brand soils. My plants have already started showing new growth!

Great soil and great value

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love this Back to the Roots soil. It works well for my ZZ plants and my pothos. It’s very affordable. It’s easy to use and seems to be a universal mix for all plant types. There’s no pesticide odor and it is a nice soft soil. . I have purchased the past and will likely repurchase. I recommend

Price Matched: Soil & Cinnamon

I’m new to the plant hobby and I read the reviews on this soil. While in target l, another customer sad she had great experience with her indoor plants using This soil. She also recommended buying a bottle of cinnamon to control gnats and it worked! This was the last bag on the shelf and it was priced higher in the store than online $6.99, which the cashier honored.

Excellent

Great indoor container soil. It stays fluffy and doesn't compact hard like peat-based soils do. Drains quickly and easily. At first I thought the bag was moldy when I opened it but upon looking closer it was only the high coconut coir and sand content. I unfortunately have fungus gnats in a different pot of a plant with the wrong soil, but the gnats won't go near this Back to the Roots mix. I mixed some extra orchid bark in it and repotted a Pothos and White Bird of Paradise and they like it. They've put out new leaves. Good soil.

Indoor potting soil

Small amount for how much you pay, but overall it’s a good quality organic soil if you just need to fill a few small indoor pots.

Indoor Plant Love

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used this Back to Roots indoor potting mix to replant my hypoestes plants. One thing I like about the mix is that it’s an organic mixture and doesn’t contain chemical salts, which if it did contain could build up in the soil and would require flushing out on occasion. The mix contains coco coir which helps to maintain moisture in the soil for plants that require it. In the picture you can see that the soil is mixed with crushed perlite that aids in aerating the soil for root health. My hypoestes plants are healthy and growing. I will be using this mix to repot my monstera, too.

Great for my indoor plants.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This soils has a clean appearance and practical features that support indoor plants well. Its durability helps maintain structure over time, and it offers good value for organic use. My recommendations are to loosen it before use and monitor watering. This size bag is good to set up your indoor plants.

Seems like a decent mix

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This a potting mix aimed at indoor plants. At least right now it seems decent. It is a I guess looser soil mix, light and airy sort of compared to other indoor mixes I have used. I ended up using some of this to refresh the soil ina catnip plant I have had for years. Then the rest to start a couple of indoor plants from seeds. So far they seem to be growing fine. The soil takes and holds moisture well. No signs of potential nutrient issues so far, will see in a few months when the plants are fully in their growing stage if they start showing signs of needing a boost or not.

Compact soil

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Returning to Roots Organic Indoor potting mix, this soil incorporates perlite for aeration and drainage. It is composed coconut core and yucca extract blended with organic plant food. The soil maintains moisture for several days, making it in to a chunky soil mix. The scent is reminiscent of the earth not moldy

Small package but mighty results

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was thrown off initially by the small package but I am really impressed by this potting soil. It was time for some repotting, so I could put this to the test. You can immediately tell a difference when you open the package. Organic material, dark, rich soil and no cheap filler like other brands. After watering a few days later, the soil still felt moist and hydrated. Other brands would already be drained and dry. Will definitely continue to use.
