I noticed a horrible smell to these, and then I read the warning that children should not handle them--I am assuming it is because toxic dyes are used, perhaps lead containing? Not sure, but the whole idea of buying wool is so that it is safe for children to decorate the tree. I buy wool ornaments and toys all the time, and they never smell like this.
