Have been a faithful user until they changed to "combo." The worst possible product. Grass did not grow, weeds flourished and finally found the original just seed. If I can't find just the seed in the future, I will have to change to a new company's product. Just the worst.

Hello Katie. We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Scotts Turf Builder Sun & Shade PhysBlend Mix and appreciate your feedback. When making the application, this grass seed germinates best when soil temperatures are above 55°F and air temperatures are consistently above 60°F. In the spring, it takes a lot of consistently warm temperatures to warm up the soil. Any weed control used prior to seeding, such as using the crabgrass preventer, will prevent seed from germinating. It can also take 6-14 days to notice results, but up to a month for all the seeds to germinate. We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee. If for any reason you, the consumer, are not satisfied with the results after using this product, you are entitled to get your money back. Limitations apply. At your earliest convenience, please reach out to us at 888-270-3714 if we can further assist.

I did everything right from the seeding instructions to watering as recommended, but have had average success at best. Started mowing and hope the grass will spread.

Last fall, we resurfaced our entire front lawn first by using Round up to kill everything & removed debris & dead roots with sharp thatch rake, scraping/regrading low areas, seeded, and fertilized with Scotts Triple Action. (The lawn was mostly weeds & dead grass from drought) . The grass came in beautifully, as weeds were effectively controlled weeds (some crabgrass was stubborn). This spring, we used this fertilizer first as a preventative before temperatures were suitable for seeding. A few weeks later, after removing large dying weeds, too big to leave in, we applied the 3-in-One fertilizer a SECOND time and over-seeded with the Scott’s special PA State Blend covering any bare patches. Watering daily, along with some April showers, the grass has never looked better! The best part? The grass is green on OUR side!😆☺️ I love that this fertilizer is safe for seeding AND does a great job killing those pesky weeds, ESPECIALLY nutsedge, which is very difficult to eradicate. Thank you, Scotts! Tip: If directions are followed carefully, the outcome is well worth the effort!
Use premium seed (Lesco blend) instead.

Bought the large bag hoping to seed a somewhat shady area in my backyard. For whatever reason, germination on growth was poor. Wish I could return but three out the bag and receipt. My recommendation is to buy Lesco which I used for my front yard which grew great.

We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Scotts Turf Builder Sun & Shade PhysBlend Mix and appreciate your feedback. Fluctuating temperatures in the early spring can delay germination. For best results, we recommend applying this in the late spring when temperatures are consistently over 65 degrees. Be sure to keep the seed moist as the germinate. If they dry out they will not germinate. We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee. I have been a customer of your year-round program for several years. This year, you offered new entrants a free spreader. And left your long-time customers with their old, rusty spreaders. Not what I would consider fair or good customer relations.

Last spring I spread Scott’s sun & shade grass seed over a 100 square yard area in my lawn. The seed was planted in fresh lawn soil. During the summer and fall, the location looked wonderful. Now this spring, the area is dead as it was before I seeded it. I followed all instructions, and I am very disappointed. It’s like there wasn’t any perennial seed in the mixture. I paid more, thinking Scott’s seed was reputable, but I’m thinking I was mistaken.

I found this really helpful for patching up the areas in my lawn that needed grass quickly! I also use it in early spring to overseed my yard. Plus, I got it on sale, which made the price even better. Overall, I'm really happy with it!

We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Sun & Shade and appreciate your feedback. The newly seeded areas must be kept constantly moist for weeks on end. Allowing the soil to dry out even for an hour during the critical germination phase can result in seedling death. This may require that you give the seeded areas a light watering two to three times a day for the first few weeks. After that, you will still need to keep the seedlings watered on a regular basis. The soil should feel moist like a wrung-out sponge. Seeds must come into direct contact with the soil in order to germinate. Temperature plays a critical role in seed germination. Soil temperatures must be at least 55°F (13°C) for northern type turf grass seed to germinate (Bluegrass, ryegrass, fescue). Air temperature must typically be between 60 and 80°F (15-26°C). Seeds will not germinate if the temperatures are cold at night or are fluctuating from high day temperature to very low nighttime temperatures. Very hot weather will also inhibit seed germination. We recommend you reach out to your local retailer to share your pricing concerns. We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee. If for any reason you, the consumer, are not satisfied with the results after using this product, you are entitled to get your money back. Limitations apply. Mid summer I planted a new lawn in back of house and it came in thick and lush with no problems in about 10-15 days. Early fall I planted the front area and I’m still waiting for one blade! I followed the same procedure I used on back. The only difference was newly purchased bags of seed. Is it possible the seed was compromised? I am using sun & shade.

This seed is slow to germinate. It is not an instant impact contractor's mix. You have to make sure your seed bed is properly prepped and you must keep the ground moist every day. Once established, it blows away contractor mixes in appearance. It has a vibrant dark green color and over time it will grow into a lush lawn with proper care. Good things come to those who are patient and willing to wait.

I can't find what variety or varieties of grass seed this formula contains but it's performance has been nothing short of miraculous...where I used left over Miracle Grow all purpose potting soil for my 'top soil'. Ive had great success in other areas where I used Scott's Top Soil in the red bag...but takes longer. The pictures I included are from day 7 where I used the Miracle Grown potting mix. Neighbors have been pulling over to inquire how I grew it so quickly.

We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Scotts Turf Builder Sun & Shade PhysBlend Mix and appreciate your feedback. This grass seed will germinate best when temperatures are consistently in the 65-80 degree F range. Cool nighttime temperatures and fluctuating temperatures will slow germination. Both excessive moisture and not enough moisture can inhibit seed germination. We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. There was a ton if crab grass in this mixture and I used there crab grass killer product and it didn't kill any of it. I had some work done at my home and trucks left ruts in my lawn. I filled the rurs with Scott's top soil and then seeded with Scott's. Then I figured I would sprinkle the rest over my lawn. What a mistake, my lawn is now crab grass heaven. I am so missed I did this. I even went back and bought the crab grass killer and nothing. I have pics ..

My yard guy said July is too late to put down seed but I’m selling my place and the beautiful TruGreen lawn I had in May, burned in a June heat wave. I had to try. He said my yard is moist, so I might get “Lucky”. I don’t believe in luck, so I put down the seed last Thursday night, lightly covered the more exposed patches with some raised bed soil I had on hand, soaked the seeded ground the first night and again the next morning, and it has rained every day since. This morning (Thursday) I noticed abundant sprouts in the areas I had covered in soil, less sprouts in areas of loose soil but uncovered, and almost no sprouts in the more compacted soil. I’m only reviewing to troll the 1 star people (and if Scott wants to send me another bag, I’m open to expanding my review to include the Bermuda seed I put down today (mid-July). Happy Seeding!!
