This yeast is grown on enriched purified cane and beet molasses under carefully controlled conditions. This is a primary grown yeast and is therefore NOT a brewery by-product as is brewer's yeast. This is the best tasting yeast flakes that I've ever had! I have been using brewers yeast/nutritional yeast for over 50 years so I've come across a number of products over the years. Based on my research, brewers yeast has a few more nutrients than nutritional yeast so I like that.

I'm a big fan of NOW's products, but, this brewer's yeast features an overwhelmingly bitter and unpleasant flavor that makes it impossible to consume it by itself. Mixed into a smoothie or a shake, this probably wouldn't be an issue, but, because I take my yeast by itself, the bitter flavor is a problem. I buy and prefer Swanson's brand brewer's yeast, because the flavor is much more pleasant and palatable.

I bought it to help rid fleas on a cat.It appears to be working. I don't see any fleas on her anymore. 1/4 t in am and in pm with food.

If you're used to nutritional yeast, this can be a very different flavor. I prefer this brand's brewer's yeast over that of their competitors, because it was actually grown on Barley and I like the bitterness personally. In terms of value, it's on par with Swanson's equivalent product.. And if this short video loads, there's a good comparison there worth watching! Thank you for offering this product to us Swanson.

I ordered this not realizing that it is a powder not flakes. The powder cakes up and is hard to dissolve. It has a bitter taste and I have tried grape juice and orange joice to make it more drinkable.

The de-bittered declaration on the package seems like someone's idea of a bad joke. I actually quite like brewer's yeast, or at least I liked the brands I'd tried previously (Lewis's, though I promise they're not paying me to say so), but this is really bad. I'm finishing the jar because it's a decent value, brewer's yeast is not cheap, and it does provide a good vegan source of protein and B vitamins. It's just sad that I basically have to plug my nose or drown the yeast in maple syrup to get through it. The flavor is not easily masked.

....and NOW claims on the label "Reduced Bitterness" of this product. THIS BREWER'S YEAST IS EXTREMELY BITTER!!!! We discontinued using it after a few trials, taking less and less of it each time. IMPOSSIBLE, UNPALATABLE FOR US.

Unlike Swanson's brewers yeast, or the brewers yeast I used to buy from the health food store, which have an earthy taste and smell, this yeast tastes bitter and smells like brewing slurry. The most likely reason for this is hops, which are used for brewing bear, but not used when raising nutritional brewers yeast.
