Midea 12000 BTU DOE/ 14000 BTU ASHRAE Smart Inverter DUO Portable Air Conditioner for spaces up to 550 sq ft

I bought this unit end of September of 2025. I used it briefly in 2025 (let's say one month); then I took it out to use for 2026 summer (around 3 months). The unit first had a P1 error then EL OC error and finally stopped working. I probably used the unit for total of 4 ish months. I requested repair but haven't heard from Midea ever since the first email regarding it.

Quieter than most portable AC units, effective at cooling the area advertised, easy to install.

This is the best portable a/c that I have ever bought,super powerful,does wonders to cool my 400sq ft garage.

When the compressor is running the unit makes a high pitched noise. It's so bad that it makes my ears ring and after a few minutes I get a headache.

We find this unit much quieter operating over our past unit(different brand).

I ordered two of these units directly from the manufacturer, hoping that cutting out the middleman meant cutting closer to quality. Instead, I walked into a lesson I feel compelled to share as a warning to anyone considering this purchase. The trouble began the moment I powered both units on. One ran as expected; the other produced an enormous, violent racket—like a fan so catastrophically unbalanced you’d think it had been dropped. It hadn’t. The packaging was pristine, which leaves a more unsettling truth: this unit was never tested before it left the factory floor. That suspicion only hardened when I noticed the case itself had been cross-meshed during assembly, forcing the shell apart until it cracked. This wasn’t shipping damage. It was shipped already broken. From there, installing the surviving unit began a cascade of design failures. The instruction manual reads like a shorthand memo between engineers—terse, cryptic, and reliant on diagrams so inscrutable you’d need prior experience with the system to decipher them. If you’re a first-time user, you’re on your own. That would be manageable if the hardware itself didn’t fight you. The window bracket is flimsy, frustratingly difficult to assemble, and designed in a way that leaves gaps all around the frame. Following the installation instructions as written is impossible; you’re forced to improvise just to get it to stay in place—a creative exercise no one should have to undertake for a product at this price. Once running, the unit reveals a cruel personality. Change any setting while it’s on, and the system punishes you by lurching into an overdrive state that locks on for hours. In this mode, noise levels hit 90 dB—a punishing roar that makes conversation impossible and shatters the advertised 50 dB whisper-quiet claim. The air management design only deepens the frustration. The louvers steer air straight out with no side-to-side adjustment, but the real absurdity emerges when you try to direct airflow downward toward the floor. The case geometry immediately redirects that air right back into the unit. The only way to achieve anything close to maximum output is to point the louvers up and slightly outward, limiting your comfort options to a single, rigid position. And then there’s the exhaust hose—the linchpin of the entire portable AC concept. It attaches to its bracket so weakly that it detaches with almost no provocation. Once separated, reattaching it is a grueling ordeal. The bracket itself clips into the window frame using a living hinge that looks, quite frankly, engineered to fail. When that thin strip of plastic finally snaps—and it will—the hose can no longer engage the window bracket at all. At that moment, your air conditioner transforms into an expensive, noisy paperweight. What makes this flaw unforgivable is how clearly intentional it feels, as if the product was designed for permanent installation only, punishing anyone who needs to disassemble and store it between seasons. I wanted these units to work. I did my research, paid the price, and opened the boxes with genuine excitement. What I received wasn’t a pair of air conditioners—it was a string of cascading design betrayals, capped off by a product that arrived broken from a factory that clearly never checked. If you’re considering this purchase, learn from my experience. There are better ways to stay cool than getting burned.

This AC is wonderful! It cools down my apartment quickly and keeps it comfortable, even on hot days. Setup was super easy and hassle-free, and so far I have zero complaints. It’s been very effective and does exactly what I need. Highly recommend!

Blows hot air - lemon Had to ask for full refund due to it simply not working

I originally got this unit 3 years ago (2022) when we had a massive heat wave and the power went out.. its an Inverter unit so I could run it on my portable Generator and it kept an amazingly large part ofd the house cool. ive loaned it to friends when they needed a unit to get through an A/C repair and also use it in my moile office / camping bus when i sleep overnight without the engine on (just batteries or generator) and it does great.. Now I moved to a new place where I use it for supplemental cooling in my bedroom and it does fantastic.. my only regret is i had thought I was buying the version with heat and it doesnt have it.. the sales place sold me the wrong unit.. I have wished it had heat a couple times when the house furnace broke down. mine is rated at 14,000 BTU.. the same model nuber seems only to be rated at 12,000 now.

So glad we bought this to keep our apartment cool in the Summer months! We had to do some work to get the window kit to fit with our window, and now it seals and hold the hose into place quite well, while sealing out the outside hot air. It really does an amazing job at keeping the place cool on some of those days reaching triple digits, along with all the other hot days that don't reach such high temps. The only bummer is that the first time trying to assemble the window exhaust adapter pieces (3 in total to assemble before connecting to the hose) to the hose with their plastic molded retaining clips, 2 of the 4 clips immediately failed - 1 bent and wound not hold as the plastic gave way, and the other completely snapped clean off! This is one big design flaw when connecting the adapter with the hose to the window installation kit, as you need to attempt to remove the adapter and hose from the window install kit at the end of the season for storage, but it's impossible when those tabs bend or break off, making it impossible to reattach the adapter and hose to the window install kit at the next season. I'll need to see about the warranty coverage on these parts before my 2 year warranty expires in July 2025, as we shouldn't be expected to pay for parts that failed upon first use. Otherwise, this pricey portable A/C with be completely unusable next Spring/Summer!

I bought this last year used off of marketplace. I am extremely impressed when it comes to the cooling and heating efficiency and how much it can move air even in our 600sq ft 22 foot A-frame living room. The variable ac compressor is also a great feature. The hose in ductwork really makes a huge difference

I bought 2 of these units. They work great, but there's one big problem that Midea needs to fix. One unit was leaking water all over the floor; after opening the top port, no water came out, so I opened the middle drain port, but nothing came out. I left a hose connected to the middle port for a week, but the container it was supposed to be draining into was dry, and I was still getting puddles beneath it. I took it apart and found a disconnected hose between the pump and the drain port. After reconnecting, it drains into the container, and no more puddles. My second unit was getting P1 errors, so I plugged a hose into the middle port to drain into a 7-gallon container. Like the other unit, the container was dry, and the P1 error returned after draining from the very bottom drain. I took it apart and found the same hose disconnected as the other unit. This seems like it would be a cheap and easy fix during manufacturing: add some type of hose clamp or even a small cable tie to both ends of this hose. Otherwise, they have been excellent for heating and cooling my apartment in Texas. I love being able to turn them on from my phone when I'm on my way home from work. I also noticed a dramatic decrease in my electric bill after replacing my old Black and Decker portable AC with these. I'll try to add a picture of the clear rubber hose inside that has popped off on both units, so hopefully, the manufacturer can find a cheap and easy fix.

Great features, but does not cool up to 350 sq ft as advertised. I was using in a 270 sq ft room, and the room was only 5 degrees cooler than outside on a 93 degrees day.

The set up is actually quite simple and comes with directions that are very easy to understand. The AC is very powerful and cools the room it is in instantly. It is easy to maintain and easy to roll over to another room. I can't believe how convenient this AC is! I highly recommend this product.

The design is appealing and the machine runs very quiet. However, despite these amazing features I was a bit disappointed because the machine itself is not very powerful and therefore does not cool a room very well. The air does not come out cold but is colder than a fan. Due to this reason, I would not recommend this product.
