Pretty but not microwave safe
Sparks, fire hazard, not worth it unless you know you won’t put them in the microwave. Got these for an older family member and never thought to look if they were microwave safe because they are paper plates. Lesson learned.

Pretty but dangerous in a microwave
Pros: Very pretty Cons: DANGEROUS The little bit of metallic around the rim will spark and set the plate on fire in the microwave. How do I know? Well, it happened to me. I popped my slice of cake in the microwave to warm it up. (oops!) Note: While the description about the plates doesn't have a big WARNING up front, if you look at the bottom of the paper plates, there is a warning. I do know not to put metallic things in a microwave but I honestly did not notice the metallic trim NOR did I see the warning on the bottom of the plate. These are BEAUTIFUL and sturdy. I absolutely love more "grownup" type of paper plates and this design is perfect (well, except for the metallic trim). I know, I know, we should use real dishes, but these are so pretty, that they make perfect plates for outdoor parties. I had a hard time rating this because this situation was user error caused by unclear instructions and/or poor design. I think it is more the packaging -- but the small amount of metallic on the plates -- does it really add to the design? I'm just not sure. Dark green or black would work just as well. Maybe stickers with a giant warning on the front of the plastic overwrap for the plates would help, too. (True for all other plates with metallics of course). Just don't put these (or any paper plates with metallics) in the microwave!
