Q: can the unit be disassembled to remove one drawer to make the whole unit somewhat shorter?
A: Yes, you can remove one of the drawers. Since the set is 24" high, and I needed it to be 23" to fit under my son's dorm room sink, I easily removed one of the smaller drawers, and now it fits!
