As others have said, these smell extremely strong. I tried rinsing them in hot water and soap and then using alcohol, but it did almost nothing. Definitely would not recommend these for kids.

Terrible Strong Chemical Odor
I bought these for my son's birthday party, but I can't pass these out to children. The chemical/paint odor is so unbelievably strong that I tried airing them out, and it filled the entire room. It made me nauseous. I threw them away.
