Hallinan writes about God in her children’s book, A Love Letter from God. ~ What ~ This twenty-four-page board book with rounded corners targets children two to seven years old and focuses on God and His love. Covering days and nights of a child’s life, it reinforces how much God loves even a young one. Brightly colored and engaging artworks fill the pages with an easy-to-read font. This rhyming book is written as if God is writing to a young child as it confirms not only God’s love but how He views the child as perfect, precious, good, strong, blessed, and loved. It confirms that the Almighty is with us always and forever. ~Why ~ This is a lovely book for a child to learn about God and how much He cares for us. I like the colorful scenes that kids can view while being read to about how much God cares. I appreciate that the book mentions that God directs us by bringing friends into our lives, helps us when we have problems, and even is in control of the stars. There is enough action in the illustrations to keep children interested. ~ Why Not ~ Those who do not have a personal relationship with God will not approve of this read. Beginner readers may have trouble with some of the two and three-syllable words. Older children may think the book is a little sophomoric. ~ Wish ~ It would be nice to have mentioned Jesus Christ in the story too. ~ Want ~ If you want to help your child or grandchild understand God’s amazing love, this is a great starting point for an inquisitive mind.
