Book Synopsis
The 'transatlantic alliance' between Europe and America has been a cornerstone of international politics since the Second World War. Recent years, especially under the Trump presidencies, have seen the alliance tested in unprecedented ways. For both sides, the way ahead looks uncertain.
In this book, Sven Biscop takes a cool-headed look at present realities to determine future directions. He argues that the time has come for Europeans to act together as a great power and to stand up for their own vital interests, towards the US but also Russia, China and other great powers. Informed by the author's wide experience in strategic affairs, the book lays out a practical road map for how European countries can work together to achieve strategic autonomy and guarantee their own security.
