Garbage - Amazon should be ashamed of themselves

Just wanted something cheap and light to read books on. Wasn't going to even try running any real apps or games on this. The power of the hardware seems pretty bad so I doubt it can do that well. But even when it comes to just loading up text files this piece of junk is garbage and Amazon should be ashamed of themselves. It's loaded with advertisements that you can't get rid of (absolutely ridiculous that I'm paying you to deliver me ads). It doesn't let you install apps that aren't associated with Amazon for no good reason at all - absolutely ridiculous. Can't read epub files and many times pdf files don't read well on it. What an absolute joke. To heck with Amazon.

I like this Fire because you can access so many different apps. Its great for travel because of its size. Plus, I have Amazon Prime so I have everything I need at my fingertips.

I bought this to replace my daughter's first Kindle, which broke due to someone trying to jam something into the charging port. It has the exact same specifications as her previous one, aside from now having the option of activating Alexa, so it works great for a child's daily use. 16gb is small considering the size of some app downloads so I recommend adding a memory card to help with storage.

Built In Advertisements - AVOID

The product itself is ok. It's a good deal on a mediocre tablet. First and foremost this is not a premium tablet. It will be slow, it won't hold a long charge, and the app store selection will be limited. You should know that before buying the tablet so I'm not knocking any stars for that. What I am docking it for is the embedded advertisements. I got this tablet on sale for $15 off. At the time I didn't realize this, but it was a special promotion and the reason I got $15 off is because there are advertisements embedded in the lock screen. Every time I turn my screen on, I get a display that shows my some Amazon show or product they think I need. On Amazon's site, I can disable this for $15. This is ridiculous. Once you get past the lock screen, the layout of the tablet is designed more for using Amazon Products and Services. Kindle books, Amazon App Store, Amazon Prime, etc. are all front and center. Figuring out how to add your own apps from their app store and getting a truly customized experience is very difficult. I'd highly recommend avoiding this product, spending a few extra bucks and getting you an Android based tablet. Setting up a kids profile doesn't give you much control over the content. You either get the standard profile or a completely different kids profile which won't let them use apps from the store. The Kids profile has so much junk and garbage in it, I don't let my kids use it. I have better control over what my kids watch by letting them use my profile and leveraging the parental controls within each individual app. With the kids profile, my kids can't watch Netflix but they can watch that horrible pedo YouTube Kids. If you absolutely just have to have a tablet to stream some movies on or surf the web and want the best possible price, this is a prime product.
