Not only can you turn the light off, you can adjust the intensity and hue in order to find your perfect reading experience! I usually only use the light on mine if I'm reading at night so I don't need to find the right angle to read via a lamp, otherwise I tend to leave it off to get a more book like experience. A: Hello Sak7168, Yes, the Kindle Paperwhite does come with ads. The device can be changed over to an ad free version but their is a one time payment for this service. To disable ads on your Kindle from your Amazon Account, I'll list the steps below for you. 1. Go to Manage Your Devices. 2. Select Devices, and then select your Kindle e-reader or Fire tablet. 3. I really do not understand how this has 4-5 starts from anyone. I was excited to give this a try going from reading paperback books. Anytime I try to use it, it's EXTREMELY slow and glitching. I am trying to purchase my first ever book and it won't even let me checkout because it keeps glitching and going to a white screen. Extremely dissappointed, waste of money. Can't even use it. I have had it for 2 months and this is 1st time trying to read a book and I can't because it won't work. Avoid at all costs.

I have been wanting a kindle for a long time. I love my new kindle. It’s super handy to have for reading. My only concern to my transaction was that I had a visa gift card I won and was wanting to apply it to the purchase as my reward, but target was unable to split the payment for me to use the gift card. While it is an eReader with eInk technology and does respond slower than a standard tablet would, it should not be glitching or be so tremendously slow as to disrupt your experience. I would try power cycling it by pressing and holding the power button for 10-30 seconds. This will restart your device and most slowdown issues are resolved by this. My husband bought this kindle for me during the mother's day weekend deal, and I've fallen in love! It makes it so easy to read, the back light is so convenient for reading at night! I’ve heard so many good things about the kindle so I got one to try it out. I didn’t even use it for 30 minutes before I decided it was the worst purchase ever. It’s extremely slow and I can’t stand the blinking and flashing the screen does every time you touch it. I understand that’s how most e-readers work but my god it was so frustrating. I’ll stick to my iPad.

This is absolutely perfect. I love everything about it. The size is nice as well as the price. It also lights up so I can read in bed at bedtime, I thought only the paper white did that, but no, this updated basic kindle lights up just fine in the dark. Also, I found out that the basic kindles screen helps make the words more crisp than other kindle versions. That was a selling point for me. No complaints at all, only love!
