Book Synopsis

From breaking news to breaking barriers, veteran news anchor and journalist Sandie Rinaldo shares her powerful life story in a new memoir.

For more than fifty years, Sandie Rinaldo has been a steady and trusted presence in Canadian households, delivering the news with clarity, credibility, and compassion. Now, in her compelling and deeply personal memoir, she steps out from behind the anchor desk to share the remarkable journey that shaped her life.

In 1973, fresh out of university, Rinaldo joined CTV as a secretary--at a time when women were rarely seen, let alone heard, in national newsrooms. Through determination, perseverance, talent, and an unwavering work ethic, she rose through the ranks to become a researcher, producer, and National News reporter.

Then in 1980, Rinaldo made history by breaking through the glass ceiling while on Canada AM to become the first woman in Canada to anchor a daily national newscast on a full-time basis.

In Anchored, Rinaldo reflects on a career that has placed her at the centre of some of the most important stories of our time. Known for her thoughtful, incisive interviews, she gives readers a more in-depth look into the lives of the famous and the infamous, going face-to-face with Donald Trump, Celine Dion, William Shatner, Margaret and Justin Trudeau, Bob Marley, Mariah Carey, John Candy, Gordon Lightfoot and others.

But this memoir is far more than a career retrospective. It goes beyond the newsroom.

With honesty and insight, Rinaldo recounts the deeply personal experiences that shaped her life--from growing up as the daughter of Holocaust survivors to enduring profound loss, including the death of her husband, and confronting her own breast cancer diagnosis while continuing her work on air.

Anchored is an inspiring story of strength, perseverance, and purpose. It is an intimate portrait of a woman with a passion for storytelling, and a commitment to the truth.
