  • A: This is the "no Gen assigned" pencil :) . It's AFTER 1st Gen & 2nd Gen and SHOULD be the 3rd Gen but NOPE. It's the USB-C "Gen" lol! After USB-C "Gen" is called Pro, abandoning Generation altogether.

  • A: They go: 1st generation, 2nd generation, USB-C "generation", then Pro "generation". Don't try to make sense of it but there are actually 4 generations...only 2 have the generation 'nomenclature'.

Can't connect

Wouldn't connect to the iPad 6th generation as advertised. We tried connecting with an iPhone 13, iPhone 11 and MacBook with no avail. We read the packaging instructions as well as view YouTube videos. Despite it all, the pencil would not connect to any device. Returned product to retailer.

Used?

I think I may have received a used Pencil. I chose the drive-up option. I bought it the 1st week of November to gift it but decided to keep it for myself. Finally decided to open it on Christmas day 2025. However, upon opening the box, I found it oddly very easy to open meaning the seal came up easily without needing to break it. Almost no adhesive. When I opened the box, the plastic around Pencil easily slid off, and the Pencil had some dirt as if someone had already handled it. When I opened it to expose the USB-C, I noticed part of a finger print. CRAP! Given it was more than the 14-day return window and the fact that I had read from other Target reviewers about their experiences with used or switched Apple products, I felt that I was also a victim. Also other customers reviewed that Target gave them a hard time with not believing them, calling the scammers, I thought I am screwed! I will not even attempt to return. Got it for $69.99. Not worth the heart attack. The Pencil is able to connect to my A16 so far but am not confident that it will last since it’s used. Not sure if it was returned and made look unopened because it was damaged or change of mind or not as expected or not compatible, BUT I advise you all to purchase any Apple product from Target in person and inspect the box and open at the Target store in front of a staff member OR not purchase Apple products from Target at all! Hope someone from Target reaches out to me about this review so I can show them the box and how easy people can open boxes and seal them back to make them look unopened. Apple also needs to step up their seals on their packages. Plus wrap them in plastic to ensure the products have not been opened! How can a company have missed this!
