A: You have to wrench them on pretty tight. Hand-tight should be good enough to keep them from leaking if you have a good grip (or someone in your house does).

A: Hi Jim, thanks for your interest in our products! The Leakproof Storage Lids are made of Polypropylene with a recycle symbol #5. They are BPA free. Our canning jars are not made with tempered glass, they are not safe for use in ovens or microwave ovens, and they should not be used with hot beverages. They have been tested for water bath canning or pressure canning following approved recipes and guidelines which includes steps for preventing thermal shock. We hope this helps!
