Book Synopsis

Short story memoirs. The story of a Chicago-area boy who did NOT become Pope. Catholic school boy who was born in 1950 and who DID'T die from rheumatic fever when he was a junior in a Catholic boys high school, "Mike you get back into that bed; you're not getting out of it until you're well enough again." It was NINE months. Read my story, "The Yearbook". It will make you laugh. The best medicine is laughter. But I was also condemned to heavy doses of V-Cillin-K, which I took religiously all the way through my freshman year at Yale. My suite mates in Vanderbilt Hall shook their heads and looked the other way, except the day they came back from a college mixer and spiked the orange juice with vodka. Just to loosen me up. I had never met a Protestant before, and these guys were Anglo-Saxon jocks. Somehow I survived through rigorous and impossible Ivy League curricula and ran across a psychology prof, a famous guy in his field, who said, "Mike, your people are from the south of Italy, and you write so eloquently about them. You need to spend at least a year there. I know people who owe me a favor. I can get you there." And then there was Naples.
