Before I even comment on this book in particular, I wanted to shout from the review box that Amanda Cox is a must-read author! She never fails to produce a story that engages your hardship-tested heart in one way or another. The way she can see humanity and the hurt that comes with life but also keeps the candle of hope burning is so beautiful! She will always be an automatic read for me. I don’t even need to read the blurb! I know it will be a fantastic story. Between the Sound and Sea solidified my opinion of how great an author Amanda Cox is. The dual timelines worked perfectly together, keeping the past deep in mystery while keeping you on the edge of your seat in the present. I loved the themes of restoration and reconciliation in this story. The lighthouse wasn’t the only fixer-upper. My heart was tested as I watched Joey, Finn, and Walt have their damaged parts exposed and restored—such beautiful healing from years of pain! The characters in Between the Sound and Sea are expertly crafted. Even with their flaws and scars, you will learn to love them, cheer for them, and cry for them. Don’t miss out on your next fictional friends! Fans of Christian fiction do NOT want to miss this inspirational read! I was given a copy of this book by the publisher with no expectations of a positive review. All opinions are my own.

Joey finds herself entangled by her family's drama, and feels rather isolated and alone. Past hurts and heartaches prevent her from moving on. She tries to overcome the obstacles by operating her own business when her friend suggests she suddenly take an undeniably incredible yet surprising opportunity to become a temporary keeper at a decommissioned lighthouse on a North Carolina island. This unheard of adventure peaks her interest, and Joey delights in the history and restoration of the lighthouse. Finn, on the other hand, thinks his grandfather is crazy for restoring the lighthouse from his youth. However, the story that unfolds shares a rich and deep history with an amazing plot. I thoroughly enjoyed Between the Sound and Sea. The story was amazing timeline of historical and yet fictional events. I assumed I had the plot figured out, but true to a great novel, I did not. Amanda Cox again produces a thrilling piece that will keep the reader engaged. I highly recommend between the sound and see.

This story was ah-mazing! The mystery element is so good and I LOVED the characters. I was surprised by a couple of twists that I thought would go a different way and there were multiple laugh out loud moments for me which is always my favorite. This is definitely a top favorite for 2o24 and in my top 3 reads thus far for 2024. A fantabulous read! I read an ARC of this book and after finishing it, I have already preordered a final copy for my keeper shelf. This has reread written ALL over it! I received a copy of this book from the publisher and was not required to post a positive review. All thoughts are my own.

This is hands down my favorite Amanda Cox book to date! She has absolutely outdone herself. The plot and character development are on point, as ever, and the North Carolina setting made me want to visit in person _pronto_. (Kind of fun that I'm much closer now, having moved to the South last summer! Must...resist...urge... :D) I was reminded at times of one of my childhood reads (Five Go to Demon's Rocks), albeit purely from the "staying in a lighthouse" component. I think many of us have dreamed of doing such a thing--and here's one way to live that out vicariously! And the familial challenges were all too poignant and visceral at times, in a good way. Cox obviously has experience both personally and professionally in life's challenges, and weaves them in here--always with hope and faith in Christ as the redeemer of all things, including (especially) the hard things. It's an absolutely beautiful read I was sad to see draw to a close; I wasn't ready to say goodbye to the characters or the North Carolina coast! I received an eARC of the book from the publisher via NetGalley, and hard-copy ARC from the author. All opinions are my own.

I've loved every book Amanda Cox has written, and this one is no exception. I particularly enjoyed the Outer Banks setting since I live only about an hour from there and have visited multiple times. The author clearly did her research regarding the location and importance of lighthouses in the area. The added elements of mystery and romance that haven't particularly been present in Ms. Cox's other books were a welcome surprise. If you enjoy inspirational stories that take place in a beautiful setting and are filled with second chances, finding love, and redeeming past mistakes, along with endearing characters you can root for, this book is for you.

I have been wanting to read a book by Amanda Cox for some time but haven't had the chance until now. Her newest book, Between the Sound and the Sea, was lyrical. I now understand why her readers call her a master storyteller. This book kept me turning page after page to see what would happen next. It was a multi-layered story about second chances, redemption, hope, and love and I loved every word. A mystery was involved, and while the story is set in modern times, Ms. Cox weaved historical flashbacks into the story. The story is character-driven and the reader is allowed to see the character's growth throughout the pages. I loved all the characters and enjoyed seeing them develop. In my opinion, Ms. Cox does great character building which brings her characters to life on every page. I can honestly say, this may be my first book by this author, it definitely won't be my last. I would highly recommend Between the Sound and Sea to anyone who loves books that contain a little bit of mystery, has the theme of a second chance, contains historical flashbacks, faith-based stories, and romance. This book has it all. On a 5-Star Scale = 5 Stars!!!!! I would like to thank Revell Books, for my copy of Between the Sound and Sea. I received my copy for free with no expectation of a positive or negative review. The opinions are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission's 16 CFR. Part 255.

The history and mystery surrounding a North Carolina lighthouse are the basis of this fascinating book but author Amanda Cox layers it with so much more! Between the Sound and Sea is a dual timeline story that shares the current-day restoration of a dilapidated lighthouse with the events that surrounded this landmark during World War II. This is a story of love lost, hope regained, and the healing that comes when we least expect it. I love the multi-layered characters who find healing through their efforts to revive this beloved lighthouse. There is a sweet romance, but the primary focus is on friends, family, and memories. Between the Sound and Sea tugged at my heartstrings and inspired me with its message of restoration that came from faith, forgiveness, and second chances. I highly recommend it to all who enjoy contemporary Christian fiction. I received a complimentary copy of this book but there was no obligation for a positive review.

Thanks to Amanda Cox and Revell Publisher for an advance reader's copy. All comments and opinions are my own. I was engaged from the first paragraphs of the prologue and was sorry when I turned the last page. A lighthouse on the Outer Banks of North Carolina holds secrets, and this dual timeline novel weaving past and present tells the story of family, romance, honor, and finding life’s purpose. Her family name tarnished, Joey escapes to a remote North Carolina island to oversee the restoration of a lighthouse – one complete with ghost stories, rumors, and notes tucked into the old stone walls. But this isn’t merely a mystery or a ghost story. It’s a tale of hope layered with themes of love and loss, communication and healing. Author Amanda Cox cleverly juxtaposes the complexities of two families – one from the past and one in the present – acknowledging the similarities of their relationships and struggles. In addition, this is a story of a young woman who finds her purpose. Joey realizes, “I had this weird habit of helping everyone else’s dream come true without considering my own. I convince myself I’m living, but I’ve actually been in this holding pattern.” A major theme of this novel is restoration – of relationships, families, as well as the actual lighthouse itself. I enjoyed the way Cox accounted for all the elements as the novel concluded, leaving me moved and satisfied as she truly told another story of “hope, healing, and home.”

Through a redemptive story of loss and overwhelming regret, Amanda Cox once again weaves past and present together in an emotional, heartfelt tale. This one, between the sound and sea. With characters as weather-worn as the lighthouse itself, readers take a front row seat as friends and family are providentially transplanted together to search for the truth of Bleakpoint Island and Saint Mae. Add a little wisdom, capricious folklore and a few well placed, mysterious happenings and you end up with another restored, Amanda Cox community you want to be a part of. This book is suitable for teens and older with no inappropriate intimate scenes and no bad language. I received this book from the author/publisher free of charge, with no expectation of a positive review.

Between the Sound and Sea becomes a dual timeline story mostly through the memories of octogenarian Finnegan Walter O'Hare, AKA Walt. In the early 1940s sixteen-year-old Walt left his best friend, Cay, behind as he left to join the merchant marines. It was the last time he saw her because she was reported to have disappeared the same night his ship was blown out of the water. Her father was found dead not long after, and so rumors about the father and daughter began. In 2007, Walt is still looking for ways to make things right. Both story lines are interesting and well-thought-out. Each has its share of love, tragedy, and loss. The overall theme of restoration is well-done. The characters are ones that readers will come to care about. I highly recommend all of Amanda Cox's books. They are rich in excellent writing and deep themes. I am grateful to have received a complimentary copy of Between the Sound and Sea from Revell via NetGalley without obligation. All opinions expressed here are my own.

I cried at the end of this book. Not because it was particularly sad but it's just such a wonderful story and I wasn't ready to leave the island or the people. Wally had almost sixty years of regrets about how he left Cay, his best friend. Now a widower, he decided to go to the islands of his childhood and buy the island where Cay and her father had been lighthouse keepers. Joey is a young woman who needs time away from a complicated situation in her hometown. Restoring the lighthouse for Wally is the perfect diversion. Finn is Wally's protective grandson who isn't in favor of the whole thing or of Joey being the project manager. They all have issues to work through. The journal entries, faith, and a bit of romance all enhance the story. I also liked what Peter brought to the novel and how all the elements tied together. I very highly recommend Between the Sound and Sea. I received a complimentary copy of the book. All thoughts are my own.

“When I was working, I found lightkeeper logs hidden in the walls signed by someone named Mae,” Joey informs Walt in Amanda Cox’s novel, Between to Sound and Sea. ~ What ~ This three-hundred-and-thirty-six-page paperback targets those who enjoy contemporary Christian fiction regarding family relationships, secrets, and regrets. Using the slang word heck one time, topics of dementia, illness, and death may not be appropriate for immature readers. The ending includes a teaser of another one of the author’s books, acknowledgments, a biography, and advertisements. In this current-day story set in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, twenty-six-year-old Joey escapes her past by helping an octogenarian restore a lighthouse on an island. When his grandson Finn butts heads with her, all three must face their pasts to move into the present so God can heal them from their regrets and painful secrets. ~ Why ~ Since I have a sister in North Carolina, I love reading novels that include the area. Explaining how America’s East Coast shores were compromised during World War II was interesting. While Walt’s fascination with his childhood forced him to accept the past, Finn’s and Joey’s futures were just as tenderly written. Advertisement ~ Why Not ~ Those who do not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ may not like the Christian undertones that include praying or talking to God. Some may not care for the insecurity and stubbornness of the protagonist as she searches for what she wants in life. The read was a little slow as I anticipated the ending about halfway through. ~ Wish ~ Although there were a few faith-based references toward the end of the story, it would be nice if it included the eternal plan of salvation. ~ Want ~ If you like a contemporary Christian read about the tides of the past crashing into the present, this one will lap at your heart. Thanks to Revell for this complimentary book. I am under no obligation to give a positive review.

This novel is multi-generational, multi-layered and so engrossing that it was hard to put it down to do anything else. I was totally invested in the story of Joey, Walt, Finn and Cay as well as the secondary characters of Peter and Kit. The author made the characters live and breathe in my imagination and I could not wait to continue the story each day, waiting for new revelations of secrets long hidden and a love that was never forgotten. Walt and Cay were friends when they were young, occupying the marshland of the Outer Banks in the time of WWII. Cay’s father was the lighthouse keeper of Bleakpoint Island and her secret about his health changed her life in unimaginable ways. Walt hires Joey Harris to come to Bleakpoint and restore the keeper’s cottage and the lighthouse. When she accepts the job, Joey has no idea of the commitment and history that she will find as she works on fulfilling Walt’s dream. The plot is mesmerizing, with layers to each character’s story that are methodically and masterfully revealed. With family secrets, unresolved disagreements and broken relationships, this book has everything that tugs at the heart in one very neat and well-crafted package. The descriptions of the setting are so realistically portrayed that I could hear the sound and smell the marsh as I read. The entire book captivated my imagination and my desire to see everyone have a happy ending. Amanda Cox knows how to write a story that pulls you into the place, the lives of the characters and the conflict, all with a compassion and love that is at the center of the story. This is one of the best books I have ever read and I cannot recommend it highly enough for its entertainment value as well as the themes of restoration, forgiveness and seeking the lost in order to find peace. Five stars do not do this masterpiece justice! Disclaimer Disclosure of Material Connection: I received a complimentary copy of this book from Revell via Netgalley. I was not required to write a positive review, and all opinions expressed are my own. Life is not going according to Joey Harris’ plan. She takes a job as a project manager working on restoring an old lighthouse in North Carolina to give her a break from her small town and hopefully get her life back on track. It turns out there is a lot more to this job than Joey expects. On the surface this is a story about a girl restoring a lighthouse but there is so much more to it. This book includes a bit of mystery, history, family drama, inspiration, romance, and personal growth. I loved getting to know Joey, Finn, and Walt and seeing how their lives changed through the restoration of a lighthouse. I highly recommend this book.
