Book Synopsis

Former free spirit Zoe Collins swore she'd never again set foot in Copper Creek or speak to the man who broke her heart. But return she must when she inherits a peach orchard nestled at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

When Zoe returns home with her young daughter and boyfriend Kyle, she finds that she's the only person in town who doesn't expect her to give up the life she's established far away from Copper Creek. Everyone believes she was born to run the orchard, but how can she make it her home after so many years?

Cruz Huntley never quite got over his first love, Zoe Collins, the little sister of his best friend Brady. Not when she cheated on him during their "break," not when she took off to parts unknown with good-for-nothing Kyle Jenkins, and not even now--five years later.

As life-changing decisions and a history with Cruz hang over Zoe's head, tensions rise between her and Kyle. Even as she comes to terms with the shifting relationships in her life, Zoe still isn't sure if she can remain in Copper Creek with her new responsibilities . . . and her first love.

Blue Ridge Sunrise is the latest novel by Denise Hunter and is the first in the new “Blue Ridge Romance” series. As a Georgia girl myself, I’m lovin’ these books set in my home state! While this is in its own series, I was delighted to find references to the characters from Sweetbriar Cottage and The Wishing Season. Like any other by Ms. Hunter, I gobbled this up in practically one sitting; it did not disappoint! Zoe has always felt out of place in her own family. She went off to pursue music instead of a law degree, fell for the farmer as a teen instead of a rich young businessman or something, and had a baby at nineteen. Having now returned to her hometown after the death of her grandmother and inheriting her grandmother’s peach orchard, what will she do with her second chance? Will she stick with her current overprotective, abusive boyfriend, or is there a second chance with her first love? Will she settle down and run the orchard or continue to pursue fame? Although this had some similar vibes to Becky Wade’s Meant to Be Mine, it became its own story. Once I got the characters straight, it was fairly predictable, but still worth reading. It was cute, it was suspenseful, it was southern. And it oozed charm. The setting drew me in, obviously, but I stayed in the story because I fell for its characters. (Having just bought a bunch of peaches to enjoy while reading this story didn’t hurt either.) I really, really enjoyed seeing the characters grow and come out of their shells, learn to forgive and to let go of the past. This is a story with a lot of heart that you should not miss! 5 stars! Blue Ridge Sunrise was such a fun book to read. The main characters were either easy to love or easy to hate. This look pleasantly took me by surprise. When reading the cover I was excited to start reading, but if I would’ve only known what I was in store for I would’ve started sooner. It was almost impossible to put the book down once I started and I loved every minute. This book follows Zoe and Cruz as the present collides with the past. Young love is one of a kind, but does that make it any less real? When Zoe’s beloved grandmother passes away, Zoe knows she has to go home. Planning on leaving right away, her world is turned upside down when she finds out her grandma left her the orchard. Her boyfriend Kyle can’t wait to get out of town, but this is something she feels she needs to do. The orchard was always like home to her, and selling it to the highest bidder doesn’t feel right. Being near Cruz, her first love, is not going to be easy. Can they work together for the good of the orchard? This book was so good. The story had many unexpected twists and turns and I loved being taken by surprise. This isn’t your everyday second chance type of story, and that made me love it all the more. I enjoyed seeing Cruz faith when it showed up here and there. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Christian Fiction. There was some edge of your seat suspense moments that might have made me read a little faster to see what happened. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series. I received a copy of this book from Thomas Nelson Publishing. I was in no way forced to post a positive review. All opinions expressed are my own.
