This piece of pottery is lovely and well made. However, it is much smaller than anticipated. I did not read the specifications/dimensions prior to purchase. With that in mind, I read the product name (i.e., 'cake server') and assumed (wrongly) that it would be long enough to do 3 key things with a standard size layer cake: slice it, pick it up, and transfer it to a plate. No. This item is much too small for these purposes. Rather, it would work best for serving cupcakes or small pieces from a pan cake.
