Braun IPL Silk·expert Pro 5 PL5157 Latest Generation IPL for Women and Men White and Gold

I had to call a Braun representative to determine what the difference was between the products. They look to have the same items included in the purchase but have a price difference of $30 USD. It turns out the difference is the bag. The bag for the PL5137 is supposed to have the golden rainbow effect where the PL5157 is just a leather-type solid grey bag. I purchased the PL5137; I didn't need the leather bag and I liked the look of the golden rainbow. Turns out I got the grey back. I double checked that I ordered and paid for the PL5137, so I'm not sure what's going on. Braun, please clear up your product details for each PL above because it's confusing to the consumer on what exactly is being purchased compared to what they receive. As a side note, I'm still using the item, so I'll leave a review at a later date on that. I have fair skin and dark hair, but I don't have any high expectations. It's not the product, I just know that because of my coloring I may not get the results I hope for.

I bought in March 2023. Used religiously for about 12 weeks. Seemed to work well at first with minimal discomfort. Hair started growing back in more and I started using again. It seems to be running very hot and makes a pretty good sting now. I had started with bikini area and armpits. My armpits never responded well. Bikini did at first but trying more now does not seem to be and it seems to be not functioning properly. I had such high hopes. I am pretty fair skin, dark hair.

I have now owned the Silk Expert Pro 5 for 12 months, and I’ve learned quite a bit, so buckle up. The box included the device, a carrying case, and a razor. No eyewear. I understand that the website says eye protection is not needed, however just about every other website you can visit regarding IPL recommends eye protection. It would have cost Braun very little to include a set of cheap goggles, especially if they purchased in bulk and gave the manufacturer credit, promoting their product. Instead Braun includes a razor that will last you, at best, a month? That’s if you even choose to use it. I have sensitive skin and it took me years to find the perfect razor. The last thing I’m going to do it use a new brand immediately before applying IPL to my skin. Braun, ditch the razor and include some eye protection, whether you think we need it or not. It’s going to take considerably longer than you think to remove all your hair. I am very pale, like second, maybe third shade of foundation from the very lightest, but I have very dark hair, and the hair on my legs grows quick. Like, shave in the morning and have stubble by night time kind of quick. In summer I would shave the top half of my leg, above the knee, one day, and below my knee the next day, and just alternate. Every day. I had to shave my armpits every other day. I had to shave my lip and two spots on my chin every other day. I was going through a razor every two weeks and they weren’t cheap. When using this device, you shave the area you’re going to treat, then use the device, so you really don’t know what spots you’re missing. Also, the longer you use it, the slower the zaps get. After doing about half of my calf, the zaps get slower. I would say I spend about 10 minutes each time I use it. I follow the same pattern I did when I shaved: shave above the knee and use the device one day, then do below the knee and my armpits the next day. I would then wait a couple days and repeat the process. After about 4 months I could go a week without having to shave my calves. I went from using it twice weekly, to once weekly, to once every 10 days or so. It took about 8 weeks of consistent use to stop shaving my armpits three times a week. Now, I have to do an armpit touch up, cleaning up the random hairs that I missed, maybe once every 10 days, if that. After 12 months I’m to a point where I can go two weeks without shaving my calves in shorts weather. I’m still working on my upper legs, specifically the inside of my thighs. That is some stubborn hair, but I’m down to shaving that about every 10 days. My upper lip and chin are a completely different story. I used to have to shave my upper lip and two spots on my chin every two days. Now I can go three days, sometimes four if I’m lucky. I wonder if it’s because that hair used to be waxed. I’ve never waxed my legs or armpits, but I did wax my lip, and a rogue esthetician saw some hairs on my chin one time and threw wax on them before I even knew what was happening. That hair started growing in faster and darker and was the bane of my existence for about 10 years. I’m REALLY hoping that the IPL will eventually start working on those areas better, but it’s been a year of consistent use on those areas, so I’m not holding out much hope. All in all, if you’ve got the money, this is a good little device. I don't have before and after pictures, I've never put that much stock in them, they're too easy to fake. I can’t speak to how well it will work on lighter hair, but if you’re patient and consistent, you’ll have success on darker hair, just know it’s likely going to take longer than the four weeks they say it will take for “lasting hair reduction”. That, and the lack of protective eyewear, is the reason for only three stars.

I've had mine for over a year, and for most areas of my body (legs, armpits, and bikini) it started working in one session. I had to shave less often and the hair was noticeably thinner. My husband is a dermatologist, and I've had actual laser hair removal treatments in the office. This hurts WAY less and is just as effective. The best part is you can use it in your own home and not make an office appt/pay out of pocket.

I've used it on my bikini area as well as armpits. I've been using it at least once per week. It's not too painful and results are starting to show.

I have never done any type of laser treatment or at home IPL treatment so I was really nervous that it would hurt or be complicated. It did not hurt at all.and was super easy to use! I am so excited that this set has the precision heads. I tried the precision head on my face and chin and used the sensitive setting since it was my first time, and it did not hurt. I was able to use the regular setting for subsequent treatments.I’m excited to experience the full results as I continue treating the different areas. Also, as an added bonus, I love the case that comes with the device. Everything has a place and it is a stylish and very functional case to hold the device and the treatment heads. I am so happy with this device and would recommend it to anyone that wants to do IPL treatment at home.

I've only used on my legs so far. I started with mild tip and worked my way up. Not had a single reaction or any kind of sensitivity. So easy to use and comfortable in my hand. The pink case is luxurious looking, no need to hide in cabinet. I prefer to do treatments at home rather than salon. So, thank you Braun for making such a user-friendly product!!!

As a daily shaver, after just 4 weeks using the Braun Silk expert Pro 5 IPL I now only shave once a week in prep for using this IPL, and am about to go to once every 2 weeks already! It's powerful so no lag between flashes, as fast as at the salon! I had high hopes for this IPL but did not expect the results I'm getting after only 4 uses! I strongly suggest reading the full instructions which are easy to follow and included, to get successful results right out of the box. Three different treatment heads are included for the perfect coverage for each area you're removing hair from, as is a razor to prep the treatment area. I can not recommend this Braun Silk Expert Pro 5 IPL enough, seriously this is the one that takes hair removal from the salon to the convenience of your own home.

I really like the storing and carrying case on this one with a place for all of the different sized caps. It is painless, easy, and convenient. With continued, regular use, is has been very successful at eliminating unwanted body hair. I have not, however, found that they have taken care of stubborn facial hair... which is the main reason I keep trying new ones.

I was looking for an option that was less pain and less time-consuming. This is a great solution. I am already seeing results. The kit comes with the device, and a razor. You shave the area before application. Then you match the sensor up to your skin and it will give you a light if it is safe to use. I would suggest the first time you use this to use a more mild setting as you can experience some discomfort if you put the setting up too high the first time.

I was a shave every day girl and in just a few weeks I no longer need to shave every day. Actually I shave now about once a week! The hair is finer and lighter too! I love how easy it is to use. I've decided to try the Braun Pro 5. I read the most consistent comments about this brand, and Braun is known for making good products. It comes with a Venus 5 Razor, a quick guide, and a cute leather carrying case. About me: I am an Asian-American woman who is 38 years old and has olive/golden skin and dark brown body hair. I have very little and very fine hair on my body. However, I chose to do my underarms first because the hair there is coarser. If you've ever had waxing, even on your eyebrows, you can start on the highest level if you want. The laser feels like a quick zap, and it hurts less than getting waxed. If you have good skin contact, the SensoAdapt will light up white. If you don't have good skin contact, it won't light up at all, and if you have an invalid skin tone, it will light up red. The device is simple and easy enough for me to use by myself, even on my armpits. You'll need to clean, shave, and dry the area before you start. DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT ON WET OR DAMP SKIN. My armpits took about 5 minutes in total. The recommended treatment time is once every 4 to 12 weeks. Laser treatments (at home or in a salon) will never permanently remove hair; they will only permanently reduce hair growth. Our bodies change all the time, and so does the way our hair grows. After 3 weeks of treatments, I have less hair and smaller hair follicle pores. This is my first at-home treatment, and so far I'm happy with the results. I'm excited to try this next on my bikini line!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’ve been wanting to do hair removal for a long time but it’s very expensive to get it. I was thrilled to try out this Braun device and it didn’t disappoint. The unit itself is attractive and light weight. It’s very simple to use if you follow the instructions. I am very fair and the hair growth on my legs is almost a colorless brown so I wasn’t sure how it would do. But it read my skin tone right away and set itself to the highest level which scared me haha so I tested it and turned it down one notch (there are three) and I found that very manageable. It feels like tiny static shocks and it doesn’t hurt at all on fatty or muscular areas, on bone it’s the most noticeable. You move it like you’re shaving and can switch out the head for smaller areas. You shave first and they do provide a razor which is nice. You use the drive once as week and the first thing you’ll notice is regrowth is finer and like baby hair. There will often be no regrowth. I don’t yet know if I will have to redo in six months or whatever, but it’s easy so I’m not too concerned. If you can afford this product I highly recommend it!

I have had laser hair removal done on my underarms at a laser spa and was pleased with the results but not the cost. I didn’t think a treatment I could do at home could be effective. I was WRONG! He would have never go to a salon to have it removed and is honestly too sensitive to wax it. After several uses of the braun, our back shaving sessions are almost non-existent! (Yay) We both have used this product to removed unwanted hair from sensitive areas and I’m so impressed with the results. We have salon quality without the cost and without leaving the comfort and confidentiality of your own home. BEST PART- discomfort is minimal to non- existent. The unit is lightweights and easy to operate- once you study the instructions. Highly recommend reading the instructions CAREFULLY! The light indicator is really useful to ensure that it’s working effectively. I wasn’t expecting such a bright flash of light and was surprised to find no discomfort during and after use. I’ve been using this for about a five weeks and the hair is coming in so much finer and I’m finding I have to shave way less often (I’m thinking once every two weeks right now/ before every 2 days). This hair removal system does work but it is not a one and done solution—-you must be diligent and put in the time and use it weekly until your hair growth stops. The product is beautiful and comes with everything you need to complete the entire process- including a brand new razor. Even the bag is beautiful and high-end. 1000 times recommend!

I have wanted to do some other areas, but haven’t because of the cost. The Braun Silk-Expert Pro 5 IPL has given me the opportunity to try at home treatments to see if I get the same results for a much lower cost. I have fair skin and dark hair follicles. I’m treating the hair on my legs currently. The unit is lightweight and easy to hold. You simply place it against your skin and press the button, then move onto the next area and do the same. It feels like the snap of a rubberband depending on which intensity you are using, but is not painful. I have found that you can treat a large area pretty quickly. I haven’t owned long enough to speak to long-term results because laser hair removal takes multiple treatments over a period of months, but I have definitely noticed the hair coming back finer. I’m excited to see if I can get rid of the hair permanently!
