Great Machine, Documentation Seriously Lacking
4 out of 5 stars

Fantastic price for air threading technology! I have been using this serger for a couple of months (as someone who barely used a very old 1980’s serger before) and my only complaint is the lack of adequate user documentation, especially for those new to serging - for example, how to remove or replace the needles, and how to remove the threads that come left on the machine when shipped. Being a product manufactured for the last couple of years, one would think there would be more videos/documentation on how to use and maintain the product, and for troubleshooting - which I have thankfully thus far not had need of! There is a tool that comes with the machine to remove/replace needles but you would never know it! It was pure trial and error and a fear of voiding my warranty by even trying to figure things out which are undocumented and make using the machine frustrating at times. The machine itself works like a charm and I am very happy with the price for air threading technology - which I swore I would have after my last serger from the 80’s…. I just hope it holds up well and gives me many years of flawless use! Would have been 5 stars but for poor documentation. Never assume a user has prior experience.

The left needle thread breaks. There is so much resistance. I’ve adjusted the tension wheel both ways and the resistance is still the same. The right needle thread appears to be fine. I just received this serger a week ago and cannot use it because of this issue.

I just opened my new air 1800 and I just love the machine. I was able to start sewing in less than 15 minutes! And that was reading the manual and threading, simply amazing! I would recommend this machine to anyone, especially those who are experienced sewists!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was so excited to get this serger as I've wanted one for so long! It is surprisingly easy to thread (the thing I was most worried about) and it works so smoothly. It took a little bit of play time to figure out the tension, but once I got that, all systems were go and I can serge blankets in no time! Highly recommended!
Awesome!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’m kind of new to sewing and the Brother AIR1800 3/4 Thread Air Serger is so easy to use. I’m making pillows for a craft show and was able to make 100 pillows in one night. It cuts while you sew. Saved me so much time. I love how it threads it’s so awesome. It’s so easy to use. I highly recommend this machine. New to sewing or a expert you will enjoy using it.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] When I first got this serger sewing machine, to say I was a little intimidated by it; would be putting it mildly. I didn't even open the box for the first few days. I had a serger given to me about 25 years ago. I never once threaded that machine. It had huge white spools of thread on it when it was given to me and I only used the machine on things that I could use that white thread on because there was no way that I was going to try and thread that machine. When they said that changing the threads on this machine would be a breeze, I thought "yeah, right", but it really IS EASY! I studied the directions for quite some time before getting up the nerve to try it...........thinking to myself.........this is probably not going to go as easily as they make it seem, but it really did. I was so impressed. The light on it is nice and bright so you can easily see what you're doing. So far I've just been practicing with different scraps of material that I have. So far I haven't had any issues with any material that I've tried to sew with it. It seems to do well with very fine material too. So now I can't wait to go shopping for some material for new curtains. It will be my first official project with it. So thrilled with this new machine!!
Love Air Threading!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This machine was pretty simple and straightforward to thread all four needles, especially with the air threading feature that this machine has. I was able to get it out of the box and setup in about an hour using the links to the online videos. I like the compact size of this serger also, and mighty machine in a small package.
So easy to use! Great for a beginner!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This has got to be one of the easiest to use servers I've ever tried out. To be fair I don't have a ton of experience as I've only dabbled with sewing as a passing hobby. But I am thankful to have the opportunity to try Brothers Air1800 with automatic threading! I have a ton of patterns I'd like to get to sewing this summer and since I like double brushed poly material a serger was needed to offer a flexible and secure stitch! I'm really happy to use this machine on future crafts. I only had time to play with stitches and test how easy it was to thread, and its just a beautiful machine! I will add that it does take considerable space and I haven't had any luck finding a serger case to fit it yet, however it does come with a protective plastic cover to help keep dust off its delicate parts. But as a hobbyist/beginning sewer this is a machine that meets all your needs.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a powerhouse! Only ever used a regular machine. Thought this was for designers only. Its AWESOME!! Threading the 4 spools was super easy. The cutter works great and its so much quieter than my old machine! Can't wait to discover all that it can do.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It’s great! Even for a beginner like me, I was able to set it up and watch videos on how to use it. It’s definitely much larger of a machine than I expected, and not the traditional one I’m used to, but it works and is very fast/powerful
Works great

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I'll have to admit; I was a bit intimidated by this machine being a novice sewer. I wasn't even sure how a Serger works. That said, I went on the website and asked for video instructions that helped me immensely. I also asked a friend who has been a professional sewer for decades for some guidance. She found it easy to thread and similar to her machine. She was impressed by with just a press of a button, a blast of air sends the thread through the loopers. She was amazed at how it self-threads as well. My vision isn't that great, so this is a game-changer for me. This machine can cut and finish seams and loops the threads for a professional seam. It is great for all types of fabrics. You can actually do up to 1300 stitches per minute which is awesome. I love the cutting knife that trims the edges. I am so excited to get started with my first project and learn more about this machine.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This machine is great for beginners. Comes assembled and already pre threaded. For me since I am new to this it is still a bit confusing for me especially trying to put thread back into the automatic thread feeder but I am getting the hang of it. It threads really fast. Comes with very clear instructions. A little advice is slowly press the foot peddle do not push on it to hard until you get the hang of it because it really takes off and if your not holding the material correctly the thread will go in at a slant. There are videos you can watch online as well with others showing you how to work and use it which has been a big help for me because I had absolutely no idea what I was doing when I started but it really is a great machine. It is easy to store in a closet or you could keep out on a desk. Has some weight to it so it is not the lightest machine but also not heavy to where someone would struggle to lift. Highly recommend. Machine is very well made. Great quality machine great quality pieces

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Changing thread colors has never been easier with the one touch looper threading air technology. No more squinting one eye to try to get the thread through the needle. It's as easy as pressing a button with this machine. The burst of air accurately threaded my needle every time. The Brother Air1800 creates professional quality seams and is extremely easy to use...even for a beginner. I'm currently using it on a quilt and it has already saved me time when compared to using a traditional sewing machine. Although I haven't used it at full speed yet, it can sew up to 1400 stiches in a minute! I'm looking forward to testing out the Brother Air1800 Air Serger on a variety of projects in the future. I appreciate that on Brother's website, there are several fun idea including an infinity scarf and pencil case!
