Description
The Brother SM1704 offers the perfect set of features for everyday sewing and mending. Selecting your stitches is as easy as turning the dial, and the tension control dial and reverse sewing lever give you added control at your fingertips. The four included sewing presser feet allow you to easily insert zippers, create buttonholes, sew on buttons, and handle general sewing. This machine also has a jam-resistant Quick-Set drop-in top bobbin, clear-view bobbin cover and bobbin, automatic bobbin winding system, and a free arm for sewing cuffs and sleeves. Included are a twin needle, extra spool pin, and darning plate as well as instructional DVD and an English and Spanish user manual.

I received this machine as a prize drawing in an online contest. It was shipped to me and arrived in perfect condition. Full disclosure: I own a Brother 1250D and a Brother Stellaire XE1, so I am experienced with higher end computerized machines, and I was a little bit skeptical about a basic mechanical machine. Well, I can tell you, I LOVE THIS LITTLE MACHINE! I love being able to just turn it on and sew! The stitched included are pre-set in width and length, and being able to sew without a lot of decisions is wonderful. The stitch quality is perfect, and making the 4 step buttonhole is very easy, even though I've been spoiled by the buttonhole application on my Brother 1250D. Even the manual threading is simple enough, because of the bright LED lighting. I love that this machine is lightweight enough to move easily, yet still has a metal frame inside. I am looking forward to using this machine as a way to introduce my young grandchildren to sewing. As someone who has sewn for 50+ years, and who has owned several computerized machines with all sorts of "Bells and Whistles", this machine does not disappoint as it has all the features I need to get the job done, without a lot of fuss. This is the machine I'd choose to take to a friend's house for a sewing party (once we are allowed to go to parties again!)
