Book Synopsis

Is this the end of Captain America? As the Super-Soldier Serum in his veins decays, Steve Rogers' health continues to worsen - so he's going to need a little help to carry on shield-slinging, especially against Baron Zemo and his new Baroness! Diamondback may be having doubts about their partnership, but new heroes Free Spirit and Jack Flag join the good fight against the Serpent Society! And Tony Stark has his own way of lending a hand: designing an incapacitated Cap his very own suit of armor! Will it be enough for Steve to survive an epic clash between the Avengers, A.I.M., M.O.D.O.K. and the Red Skull? And left with 24 hours to live, how will Cap spend his final day? Collecting CAPTAIN AMERICA (1968) #431-443, TALES OF SUSPENSE (1995) #1, AVENGERS (1963) #386-388 and material from CAPTAIN AMERICA COLLECTOR'S PREVIEW.

About the Author

Few writers/editors influenced Marvel more than Mark Gruenwald (1953-1996). Famed for pioneering work on Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe and his magnum opus Squadron Supreme, he also wrote a hundred-plus-issue run of Captain America; multiple Marvel Two-in-One sagas; and several miniseries, including Contest of Champions, the first of Marvel's multi-hero sagas. He explored the Marvel Universe's ancient history in a series of What If? backup stories he also penciled.

Penciler Angel Medina has worked in comics for several decades. His diverse credits include Megaton, Nexus, Dreadstar, Kiss: Psycho Circus, Sam & Twitch and an extensive association with Spawn. For Marvel, he penciled memorable runs on Warlock and the Infinity Watch, Blackwulf, Incredible Hulk and the Abominations limited series. After a stint as the regular artist on Sensational Spider-Man, Medina illustrated the Venom: Dark Origin limited series.

Artist Mike Deodato Jr. was already a renowned illustrator in his native Brazil when he got his big break in American comics in 1994, illustrating DC's Wonder Woman. For Marvel, he drew such series as Avengers, Elektra, Spider-Man and Incredible Hulk. After refining his inimitable style on the creator-owned Jade Warriors, he returned to Marvel for a second turn on Incredible Hulk, with writer Bruce Jones, and a stint on J. Michael Straczynski's Amazing Spider-Man. Deodato has forged an association with the Avengers on various titles -- including collaborations with Brian Michael Bendis, Ed Brubaker and Jonathan Hickman -- and demonstrated his superstar status on the event book Original Sin. Deodato joined writer Jeff Lemire in exploring one of Marvel's greatest villains in Thanos.
