A Catan adventure for fledgling swashbucklers, Catan: Junior introduces a modified playing style of the classic game giving younger players the opportunity to experience the world of Catan. Designed for players as young as five, Catan: Junior is a perfect introduction to the Catan series of games for kids and families. Catan: Junior takes place on a ring of islands where two to four players build hideouts, avoiding the mysterious Spooky Island, where the Ghost Captain lives, Each island generates a specific resource: wood, goats, molasses, or swords and players can acquire gold. Each player starts with two pirate hideouts, then builds ships in order to expand their network. The more hideouts you build, the more resources you may receive. You use your resources to build shiips, hideouts, or get help from Coco the Parrot. Just watch out for the dreaded Ghost Captain! Be the first player to control seven pirate hideouts and you win the game.
Fantastic game. This is my 6 year old son's favorite game. As parents, this is also our favorite game to play with him. We all know what it's like to play a mindless game 5 times in a row with our children. This game is not one of those games. He is able to understand the strategy behind the game but it's still challenging enough that none of us get bored. We've owned it for a year now and we enjoy it as much as the first time we played. Can't recommend enough.
My 7-y-o and I love to play this game and so do his friends and grandparents. It takes some critical thinking strategies for the kids to win, but it is still challenging enough for adults that we enjoy the game.
Fun adventure, kept the kids attention, and did not bore the adults!

This was our first exposure to the catan games and we loved it. I played it with my 6 and 8 year old boys and they had no problems understanding it. It is a fun little adventure with a cute storyline and plays in a reasonable amount of time. To gauge the difficulty of this game I would compare it to Monopoly as far as game play, but with not as much strategy involved. My 4 year old also played it but needed help.
Our kids 7 and 9 Love this game! By far their favorite in recent board and card games. They like the trading and buying aspect. I liked the quality (eg. tiles printed on both sides) and clear directions.
