Q: Are there actual numerical buttons?
A: Yes there is a number pad on the inside of the handset just like a real one. You can press them but they dont actually do anything or make sound.

Q: Is there a way to get ride of the try me cord?
A: I purchased a few Hyde & EEK products with "try me" cords and just popped it right out of the product and threw it out! Everything's working fine, it definitely doesn't risk the functionality :)
