Q: What's the minimum amount of wall space, in inches, that are needed to mount this? I only have 3 inches and the dimensions listed are a bit confusing to me.

I can't believe another reviewer said that these were heavy. They are hallow and feel like aluminum to me. Also they stick out too far from the wall if you have a window next to a door. A nice color and came with all the hardware. I just wish holdbacks were easier to find... back to the drawing board.
