Del Real Foods Mini Pupusas Carnitas & Cheese - 16.8oz

My wife really did not like the Birria variety she had, but the one bite i had of her's Birria variety i didn't mind. Really did enjoy the convenience of a quick meal option, we served both this Carnitas variety and the Birria variety at the same time with a side of avocado slices and lime wedges. Definitely not authentic but the consistency of the meat/cheese filling aside, i did find the corn masa shell to be closer to authentic especially because we pan fried to a crisp. Your mileage may vary, follow the instructions, use a pan to cook at a low heat and flip 1/2 way through. Reminded me of tamales more than pupusas, would DEFINITELY eat again, especially if they were on sale as these were with Target Circle promotions. Also, it feels like all the 5 star reviews are "curated" to put it nicely, and not to be trusted since they come from the manufacturers website through their pop-up sampling stands that had free swag giveaways potentially influencing a bias — you can't gauge the quality or overall flavor from one bite or tiny cup sample.

First of all get the facts right. “Pupusas” are from Central America country El Salvador. Since this company is trying to make it look like a Mexican dish, then it should be named “gorditas”. Don’t make it look Mexican with the “molcajete,” jalapeños and so on while getting the name wrong. By the way this tastes gross.

I'm not sure if the other reviews have never had a pupusa before, or if they decided to ignore the instructions and use an air fryer or microwave instead of a fry pan, but these taste like a store-bought version of the pupusas my friend's abuelita makes. When prepared in a pan as instructed (and as is traditional), they come out with a delightfully golden brown outside and soft masa and gooey cheese on the inside. Mine had a reasonable amount of carnitas inside, but it is worth noting that the carnitas is quite shredded up and melds with the cheese.

The taste is okay if you really like salt but the texture is weird, it taste raw no matter how long I cooked it, and the cheese is literally liquid

I thought these pupusas were fire I feel like they should add one more pack of 3 for the money but they were tasty.

I like this one, it wasn’t as salty as the beef. It tasted ok for a frozen quick snack and it’s very filling. Of course it’s not the same as the fresh ones obviously😏 but for what it is I will buy it again.

These, in my opinion, were pretty decent compared to alot of other quick foods to make at work. We will be purchasing them again!

These were incredibly salty. Not that I expected them to taste like authentic pupusa, but aside from the corn masa, the taste was not even similar. I would absolutely not buy these again. Perhaps they would’ve been better with curtido, but again, the amount of salt takes away from the overall flavor and I could not eat more than one…. Which is sad, because I definitely bought two boxes and will now need to donate the other one lol

Corn masa was nice. Great to have product microwaveable. Stuffing was sadly lacking. Virtually no pork, definitely no salsa and lots and lots of cheese.

Awesome taste and convenience of microwave oven cooking. Should include more product for the price. Tastes so great!
